People sleep on him cause it’s trendy to hate Metallica. He’s by no means one of the greatest of all time, but he’s released some brilliant work and inspired a ton of drummers that a lot of people have in the top of their lists. The hate is ridiculous

The white V is the original he bought as a teenager. It’s a (probably Korean made) fake Gibson with a bolt-on neck and upgraded pickups. If it weren’t for the history behind the guitar it would be almost valueless. Pretty cool he still uses it.

James has one of the best right hands in thrash metal. His high speed downpicking is cleaner than just about anyone else I’ve heard. Like seriously, who’s got a CLEANER right hand than James’ for downpicking? Even Petrucci stands there like “😣” while covering their stuff.

James is a beast and just seems like the nicest guy ever. Lars got me to start playing drums at 12 after I heard the And Justice For All album, then later I picked up guitar, now I write and record my own music. I have to thank Metallica for all of it! Thanks for the upload!

Seeing this makes me appreciate "Hardwired..." a lot more from a production / compositional perspective. Stripping back the theatrics a bit and peering into the raw bone structure of the band is refreshing

He may not get as much attention as lead players but. James is hands down one of the greatest rock guitarist ever. His picking and riffs are top 5 at least. Dude is a beast and while singing too. Another highly underrated guitarist is Michael Sweet from STRYPER. Absolutely killer singer, riff writer and one of rocks best guitar solo writers. And again, all while singing.

@@jbjohnson4728 you are striking those strings. The vibration flows through the entire string and is picked up in the recording. The wrap/tape is similar to palm muting.

@James Williams But he did not mute the string below the nut here. He did it above the nut. If it helps, it helps. I'll have to try it out some time, though I'm skeptical it'll make much of a difference on a regular guitar and rig above the nut.
