We all are...but he was arguably the closest to him aside from his own parents. The story of the night after it happened when they all got drunk cause they didnt know what else to do, and James just running out into the street screaming "Cliff where are you!?" Absolutely heart breaking.

Very true. And what's fascinating to me, is that james doesn't hold ill will, were as many would. He speaks fondly of what short memories he has with his father (even though he bailed). His mother died following Christian science ( as a catholic, that cult makes my blood boil ). Yet despite this, he wrote some lyrics/songs that could be passed off as Christian heavy metal. Plus the songs about the importance of mental health, and songs based off of war themed books, is just absolutely incredible. He is gifted with a kind heart.

Often times, art has to be experienced BEFORE it can be created. Otherwise, it does not look or sound genuine or relatable. That’s why James’ songs affect us the way that they do, they’re REAL.

Hi Mikey, hope you're ok mate. Same here regarding, "What if....". Cliff had a ton of different musical influences, and I think that could've influenced Metallica's sound, and musical direction a lot sooner than the Load era. Would they have even made, 'Justice '? Would Cliff even have stayed in Metallica? What if it was Cliff that wanted to have a side project, and not Jason? 🙏
@MikeysMorgue
@MikeysMorgue Жыл бұрын
@Tony Mcnamara Tony! I'm trying to hang in there. It gets tough sometimes, as you know. Yes, all great "what ifs." It’s weird to think about that stuff with everything in life, really. So many things we do and decisions we make change everything, things we might not even know. The Butterfly Effect, right!?

I always think of Garabage Inc, the sound in 1987 is probably what they would of went with. The mix had the bass way up too. In terms of songs. I think the Black album type style would of crept in sooner. So like MOP meets Black Album is what they would sound like.

A lot of people argue Metallica wouldn't have went the way they did, with getting big and experimental; I argue the opposite. Cliff would have pushed them in an experimental direction sooner. He was not a hardcore metal guy. He would have expanded their horizons much more significantly much quicker.

I wonder what Cliff would say if he could see how far Metallica has come. My 1st Metallica show was 8/31/85 Day on the Green in Oakland, CA. My 2nd show was New Year's Eve in San Francisco with Metallica, Megadeth, Metal Church and Exodus. I was 17 years old and it was a good time growing up seeing them from the beginning.
