"What's public and what's private anyway? And what difference does it make? We are all scandals. But each differently, of course."- Hillman. Brilliant.

I think that James Hillman was at his best here, speaking of Carl Jung and the Red Book: authentic, humble, and illuminating. And that experience of breathing deep underwater is very meaningful for me, for I also had that kind of inner experience, and was both awed and liberated by it. "The book is a necessity in our time." Yes. A beautiful, inspiring talk, really.

I was fortunate to spend an entire week with Hillman, Bly and Michael Meade during the Mendocino Men's Conference 1989. An experience that entirely changed my life. You may think this strange, but at 30 yo, I started growing more chest hair after that experience. Of course, it wasn't just that one experience. I continued to attend every event that Bly and Hillman and Meade put on for the next five or so years. I consider Hillman one of my most important root teachers. Hillman was at his best here in this talk. Does anyone know who he was referring to by the name of Sonu?

I liked when Hillman said "we are all scandals". That was very funny. He says the most insightful things and then turns around and ruins his credibility in my eyes with the superstitious nonsense he spouts. I have a thought I would love to share with you. Please respond whenever you have time. I feel that people sometimes misunderstand the idea that "our dreams are prior to our thinking". They make claims like "consciousness proceeds existence and is the substratum of reality". This is true in the sense that our feelings, emotions and mental images arise from the deeper part of our subconscious mind and are formed by our instinctive and imaginative self. They are stored as intrapsychic images and their corresponding meanings. They appear to have a life of their own and seem to arise from nowhere but are in fact aspects of our inner world, our subconscious mind. Some people take this to mean that the entire world is nothing but a fabrication of our imagination. That there is no hard reality or real world. The experience we have of reality may not always be fully accurate or complete however that does not mean that it exists only in our mind as if we are living in some sort of dream or hologram. That idea drives me crazy and I hate when people begin to talk like that. I feel like it is a license for disassociation and is extremely dangerous for the mental health of the general public when these ideas are carelessly thrown around.

Although Jung was aware of the source, he continued to allow the mind to act as if it were the source. He must have often laughed at himself for this behavior. His words are important until they aren't, much like this comment.

Listen to 8:30 minutes in comes a noise from the audience, Jung had such a sharp mind he would have recognized it from the collective unconscious.

My Ultimate Boss, has His favourite word, Logic! It only comes from Him in the Divine, so Jung would relate to this, Divine Logic. The two attitudes, that my Boss, will never tolerate, ego and vanity, Jung knew this. My Bosses only rules, *Love Me, And Give Me Your Devotion* which Jung would agree with totally. See, my Boss, is the same one that Jung looked up to and which all Gnostic's look up to.
