Great interview with composer James Horner who sadly died in a tragic plane crash in June 2015. This interview with host Tommy Pearson who allows James Horner to talk to his hearts content. James Horner talks about his early start in scoring films and how he was luckily enough to attend scoring sessions with John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith and Elmer Berstein and considers these men as "The Gods" of film composers. He reveals what it was like to work with directors such as James Cameron and Mel Gibson. Braveheart is my favourite Horner score as my dad came from Falkirk Scotland, so I'm a bit biased there! James Horner reminds me of John Barry in a way, in that he wants to articulate the emotion in films, the things we cannot see or say to bring the emotion out of the characters and to do this with music. The full interview is still available see below for link and is well worth listening too. This version is the highlights of the interview and follows my normal pattern of adding music from James Horner's work and others to illustrate the discussion. James Horner was taken too early who knows what he could have achieved with the rest of his life, like Gershwin, we are left with his music wishing what could have been? Please leave comments if you so wish.
