It's Rick Kiefer, as well as playing with James Last he has also played with Stan Kenton and Stan Getz to name but two.

He also played with Kurt Edelhagen and the WDR Big Band. The other soloists are Lennart Axelsson (second trumpet), Herbert Bornholdt (tympani), Karl-Hermann Lüer (sax player with shades) and Harald Ende (bearded sax player).

In some ways, this is a kind of scaled-down version of the live showpiece Introducing The Band, in which every band member played a solo after being introduced by Hansi. Not as many solos here, but just as impressive.
