James Last in the Soviet Union 1972

As one of the very first music groups from the west, James Last was invited to the Soviet Union in 1972. The orchestra played in Tiblis, Kiev, Leningrad and Moscow. It is interesting to watch the audience. Some of them look horrified and excited at the same time. The audience seem quite pleased with the concert.
In this video James Last play "Let the sunshine in" from the musical Hair.
Recorded at Rossija Concert Hall in Moscow.
(The final concert during the tour took place at the Lenin stadium in Moscow, today named Luzjniki stadium

His name is Benny Bendorff (Germany/Hamburg). He played bassguitar in the orchestra between the late sixties and early 2000

Я был на концерте в Москве. Удалось купить билеты на неудобные места в самом конце зала, но мы с приятелем дождались практически начала концерта и сели на два свободных места в первом ряду. Это было странное ощущение, спереди превосходная музыка, великолепный звук, очаровательные девушки, а вокруг суровые толстые мужчины в костюмах и женщины в брилиантах. Элита. Партработники и их жены. Мы с приятелем были студентами.

To think this man is still touring 37 years after this, at the age of 80 is something else. I am seriously hoping he makes it back to England again. It was a pleasure to have met him during "The Last Tour 2006" Cheers Hansi!!!

Who is the bass guitar player on this, he does make this motor! He reminds me of john entwistle out of the who!

Last caused a commotion with the Soviet cultural authorities just by playing this song, and he had constant fights with them over censorship of his material, as well as over rough manhandling of fans by security forces. At the tour's final concert, he thumbed his nose at the authorities by performing his version of John Lennon's "Power To The People" - until someone cut the power!
