"How to play the trumpet", the way James Morrison sees it. This tutorial is also useful for other brass instruments.

This had done me more good, breathing wise, than 200+ Kurt Thompson tutorials! He gets right to the heart of the matter regarding the proper way to breathe without any BS and without showing off. And he's a hell of a nice guy; I met him a couple of years ago, no ego, just a SUPER guy!

Don't tell me you actually watch Kurt Thompson. The man is a joke in the trumpet world
@steveavant97276 жыл бұрын
I’ve watched just enough Kurt Thompson to know he’s an arrogant prick. He actually said in one video he could outperform most college trumpet professors. He can play but he’s not in the same league as many professionals, like the Canadian Brass trumpets, for example.

Thank you for putting this video online, I'm a struggling student and my biggest flaw is breathing. Hopefully this tutorial will help me get to new peaks.

The friendly and human being for Mr. Morrison reminds me of the great Maurice André which I've heard many years ago. Both of them have a special aura which make you feel confident.

I remember Tommy Dorsey was asked by a then VERY young Frank Sinatra: how did he manage to sustain those 14-16 bars, on the trombone. Dorsey attributed it to lungs/endurance, and pretty soon Sinatra started running, and jogging, to build his wind and strength, for those long phrases he would..years later be famous for!!!

Thanks man. For taking the time to share and break it down. All of your stuff I've listened to so far has been very insightful. Leave it to an Aussie to really get past the fluff and to the heart of the matter. It only seems right. All the best.

Thank-you this lesson was good, and applying it before you play a piece makes sense. But if you're mid way playing, you can't take a relaxed breath in cos you need to play the next note quickly. So I end up breathing each bar or even each note.
@martin10244 жыл бұрын
no, if you apply to this concept one 16th will be enough to get a fairly but still relaxed breath
