Being deeply involved in the TM movement for many decades I can assure you that nobody can fly using the "flying sutra" from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. I don't know if Maharishi actually expected people to fly with this sutra or if he knew that this would not happen. Who knows?
@john-fg7js
@john-fg7js Жыл бұрын
Maharishi didn't develop this technique with the intention of making people fly, that I can guarantee you. He actually believed in a level of brain coherence that one would achieve by exercising this practice over the long haul. As strange or nonsensical as you may think this is, lying and bringing false claims about Maharishi techniques is not going to make you right. So I disagree with this whole video.

I’ve been in TM for a few years. Randi is full of whale dung. TM has absolutely nothing to do with levitation or any other such thing. There are over 750 independent scientific studies done on TM from Universities around the world. Im very disappointed that Randi would talk like about TM like this. He is absolutely wrong. He normally does his research and is very knowledgeable but not in this particular at case involving TM.

" events are purported phenomena ... described as beyond normal experience or scientific explanation." From Wikipedia. I'm not sure, but I think the "para" means "beside" or "next to." So a paralegal is someone who works alongside a lawyer, a paramedic ... You get the idea. From that, I think we can think of "paranormal" as being outside of the normal. Now we just need to define "normal." ... Yikes.

@@Brugar18 .... Ok now im certain you missed the point. Tell me, with your great knowledge, how many stars are there in the universe from corner to corner? I wnt the exact number and not an estimate and i want the precise dimensions of each star and i want you to tell me exactly the day and the hour by the very milisecond when they jumped into existence... The truth is you don't know those answers and neither do I. So, how could you sit there and pretend you know what is true and what isn't true when you don't even know what's true about what you can see with your very eyes in the night sky? Can you magically change what's real and what isn't just because you say so? Do you think you know that much about life that all you need to do is invent your own truth so that your opinions become reality? The more you learn about the life, the more it should humble you because you realize you know very little, but you sit there as if youre the very author of life himself and that you have some sort of great governance over the momentum and the function of the entire universe ... you know very little my friend and so do I. So here's my point.. When the music stops and the smoke clears and egos and our "knowledge" pass away, only then will we know the absolute truth about life and death and what happens when we no longer exist here on this earth.

These levitation thing and all the mysticism with some meditators really gave it a bad rep. A friend once asked me to try meditation and I was skeptical because of all that mysticism, but fortunately the one I went to dont really have all that bs and it was simply focusing on the breath, sitting still and being present. Meditation is very helpful without all that mysticism, but I bet many people out there are also skeptic about tryig meditation because they've heard these stories of some people claiming of meditation that can help you levitate or astral projection and all that.

'This is the real world!' (Stamps foot). He sums up the danger of putative paranormal claims in just a few words. He is, I believe, overgenerous to those who make money from systems such as TM. I doubt that they believe their own claims. It is demonstrable that TM practice can lower heart rate. However, this is no differernt from any system that involves relaxation, and no appeal to a non-physical supernatural world is necessary. In other words, as with so many of these supposedly mystical systems, the bit that works is thoroughly grounded in the material world. The rest is all flim flam and window dressing. Imagine if the Maharishi had just put out a tape of relaxing music or given progressive muscle relaxation instructions (devised by Jacobsen in the 1930s). Both these approaches are as effective as TM, but there's not much money in them. Once again, I suggest Randi is overgenerous. May he rest in peace after a lifetime of important work.

TM is a non-profit organization. No one ever got rich, or even close, teaching TM. It gets by on break-even basis thru dedicated staff and generous donors. Maharishi made it into a purchased product simply to make it available. Like housing, food, etc. Wouldn't be here if it didn't cost money. And he trademarked it to distinguish it for what it is, original Vedic meditation. And, no, it is not based in the material world, and no, relaxation techniques are not comparable. TM takes the mind/nervous system/physiology to Transcendental Consciousness, where all values off manifest existence are in latent form, allowing those values to be brought into manifest life. Everything gets better. The levitation technique is an advanced practice. Levitation isn't really the intention and not really seriously expected. See Patanjali's comments on the intent of the Yoga Sutras. The TM organization and M didn't make it very clear. In any case, you can't grasp its value if you are not doing it. Not criticizing anyone for not grasping. Just saying, it's an experience. And basic TM is enough by itself.

Nope, we cannot see the truly real world, we see what we have evolved to see, which is enough to let us orient ourselves in the world. Seeing every detail of true existence would be utter chaos to the mind. People making claims about their supposed special powers are pointless and excessively fuelled by ego, yet that is quite separate from the actual benefits or teachings of many spiritual practices, expanding consciousness is not a worthless endeavour - just sticking to what a certain current of science can explain is a strange obsession, our minds and lives are our own, and experiences in the mind can induce profound changes to the physical as well, the expansion of inner horizons can completely change how we view existence and the world.

Maharishi didn't develop this technique with the intention of making people fly, that I can guarantee! He believed in a level of brain coherence that one would achieve by exercising this practice over the long haul. As strange or nonsensical as you may think this is, lying and bringing false claims about Maharishi's techniques is not going to make you right. So I respectfully disagree with this whole video.

The "miracles" of today are so weak, they can all be explained by natural means. The only reason that miracles seemed to happen in biblical times is that we did not know that much about the world as we do now, so we were impressed by completely natural phenomenon, tricks (such as what Randi performs), and drugs. There's lots of accounts in the Bible and other holy texts which implies that they took drugs or fasted to induce hallucinations.

Please let's be honest here one minute, do you really believe that if there is a god he or she has powers to intervene to perform what religious people may term as miracles? Many religious people would say God doesn't intervene and just provided the building blocks of life, of course they are the religious people who accept evolution and science, and also understand that trying to argue against it with no evidence other than a book which contains very very very little that can be proven is foolish, and I must say in 2020 many creation believers get upset when they feel they are being mocked, but to ignore so much scientific testable evidence in favour for something that can't be proven in the slightest is mind boggling to many. I'm not suggesting creationists are unintelligent what I'm saying is that there are many very religious people who work in science and are actual scientists who will still say they believe in creation and that evolution isn't real despite the evidence, which leads me to think that those people especially scientists with those "beliefs" don't actually belief that at all, and deep down they must know, but maybe for social factors they attempt to deny that knowledge to themselves.
