Walking up to an alien with no Personal Protective Equipment of any kind and touching it, kind of blows it for me. I still remember the Apollo 11 astronauts being put in quarantine after stepping on the moon and returning to earth. This reminds me of Alien Covenant where they land in an alien swamp and decide to tromp through the swamp and smell the flowers, or Prometheus, where they encounter a sweet, snake like creature swimming in the black goo, and think that petting it is a good idea. Alien movie directors - please quit insulting your audience like this.

That's exactly what I thought, "It's dumb scientist touches alien artifact time" just before he did it, and it irritates the crap out of me every time it happens. I have seen so many sci-fi tropes like this over the decades and still, they are repeated, time after time to such an extent they are now like sad old jokes geriatric comedians drag out on stage at RSL clubs. I was so annoyed watching both of those Alien movies and thought both times why would Ridley Scott do that? He must have known how bad it was creating those scenes, it couldn't have been a mistake. So what was his motive in both cases?

They will always treat the audience like this. By and large they are popcorn shoveling couch potatoes, demanding action and not sense, and deserving of no more. Any conflict between alien species would be over in an instant, lest their technologies be equivalent (Is this likely?). Does this stop movies ignoring this reality? No. Better to make a film based on a false premise, as long as it is still interesting, though fundamentally you are of course correct with your objections.

I thought James Spader was looking rather young for a 60+ year old - it was released in 2001 and is rated just 5.1 on IMDB.

So, I am watching this and trying to get some feelings for the Actor when for no reason, the esteemed scientist decides to "touch" the object without and kind of Personal Protective Equipment. Just like that, I am so uninterested in this movie it's ridiculous. Thank you for showing this clip before I got invested. You probably saved me 2 hours that I could never get back.

So we’re supposed to swallow the fact that this not only rips off John Carpenter’s, The Thing…. But that no one in the movie has ever seen the movie? :) Pass on this crap.
