I don’t expect historical accuracy in shows. Shows are for elevated and embellished drama. But it’s sweet they have James actually caring and wanting to save his mother, when in reality he didn’t want her getting in the way because she didn’t want to give up her crown. Royals have the biggest family issues through all history.

The real story/beginning of that execution is, she (Elizabeth) didn't want her (Mary) to die, Elizabeth just signed the paper of Mary's execution so if Elizabeth would be harmed by her involvement on that assasination and proved guilty, then she would have to execute James' mother... James didn't came to stop Elizabeth but he didn't liked Mary's execution.

@@elizabethfrattallone5231 Despite some negative comments about King James VI, his letters with Queen Elizabeth show that he did try to convince Elizabeth not to kill his mother. The completely complicated way they corresponded went cold after Mary was executed but bounced back. Though they never met face to face (allegedly, who really knows?), James and Elizabeth were exchanging letters for a long time.

In all of these adaptations they compare the anxiety that Elizabeth had in deciding Mary’s fate with that of her father’s decision to murder her mother. If they ever do another adaptation (hopefully better than this series), I would like to see a fresh new Tank by instead making comparisons to Elizabeth’s older half sister Mary the first of England. Mary had Elizabeth in a situation very similar to the one in Elizabeth at the Queen of Scots in. But Mary never signed Elizabeth’s death warrant. Whether she wouldn’t do it because she loved her baby sister and couldn’t do it, or she died before a decision could be made I don’t know. But I thought that would be a fresh new take on Elizabeth’s anxieties, Quite a few historians are of the firm opinion the decision to execute Marry of Scott’s practically ruined her (Elizabeth’s ) life. She never forgive herself.

Elizabeth's throne was not rightfully Mary's it never was. I don't know why the real James didn't try to intervene to save his mom unless he didn't want to associate his reign with a sinking ship. I thank the show for not aging the characters, CW is about pretty people, not historically accurate people would look 60

James most likely didn't associate with his mother because he barely knew her... and on top of that, it was widely 'known' that she killed her husband. I doubt he didn't want to get on bad terms with Elizabeth either as it would've threatened his position. He probably wanted to help her but he simply couldn't without putting his own position and Scotland's in jeopardy.

@How Do She was QUEEN OF SCOTLAND! Not Queen of England. Henry VIII made it clear first Edward then Mary I then Elizabeth. Mary QOS tried to take what wasn't hers when she couldn't even rule Scotland. Her mother did much better

The Stuart Family was taken out of the succession line to the throne of England by Henry VIII. Although Mary Queen of Scotland was the granddaughter of Margaret Tudor and great niece of Henry VIII she had no right to inherit the throne of England due to her Stuart lineage. The ones who had a stronger claim to the throne was the Grey Family who were descendants of Mary Tudor (Henry VIII’s youngest sister). Although Queen Elizabeth I did consider both Lady Catherine Grey and Lady Mary Grey as potential candidates, however those plans never developed due to their respective marriages.

Actually, Mary had a blood claim to the English throne. Mary’s relative. is Henry VIII, Elizabeth’s father. Henry’s sister, Margaret Tudor, was the mother of Mary’s father.

In real life, James never cared about his mother, he did nothing for her, he refuse to help her, he abandoned his own mother, and he just let his mother die. In the show, he's caring, wise and kind. In real life, he's cruel, selfish and self-centered.

Yeah. John Knox poisoned his mind in hatred of all women. There's evidence that James was gay too. Which I find funny because he retranslated the Bible in a version used by most Christian faiths today.

@@PrincessButterflySadieRoyalty and blood ties in th Tudor Era, and the entirety of th 16th century as a whole wasnt so simple. In fact it was often your bloodline that got you killed - regardless of what relations you had the to monarch. Whether you were a cousin, sister, son, father or brother - if you were in any way a threat to the rule of the monarch in power (intentionally or not) you often found yourself without a head (just ask Jane Grey about that). What I'm trying to say is that, regarless of Mary's relation to her son, James knew that if Mary continued to live on longer, or worse got free somehow. She would most as much, if not more of a threat to his own power than she ever had to Elizabeth. And James could never have had that. And Mary despite her tragic end, her bravery, beauty and magnetism. Those qualities weren't enough to compensate for her lack of jusdgment, political acumen, astutness and overall ruthlessness that was reuaired of all monarchs of those times. Hence why she got the fate she had in the end. And it worked out for James, Elizabeth and England as a whole

That's one way to look at it, sure. I don't see it that way. Elizabeth indisputably won in my eyes. Elizabeth is the most famous and beloved monarch to ever rule England or any other country. Elizabeth I is the epitome of Kings and Queens. Her dynasty may have ended but who cares? The monarchy today is only a shadow of what it once was. Today Britain is just a puppet state of greater nations than it and the royal family has no power left and has been reduced to celebrity status. Yet the memory of Elizabeth I, her incredible legacy she left behind lives on still to this day and it is she who is celebrated and beloved by many, not Mary Stuart.

Atleast, Elizabeth was the ruler of England. Mary was never the ruler of England. It dosen't matter who continues the dynasty. What matters is who ruled it in the past, present & who will in the future. For example = If you tell someone to name the Kings and Queens who onced ruled England from the start to the end, then they will say that after King Henry, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen of the golden age became the Ruler of England & after her King James and after him............(the list goes on) . But they will not say Mary's name. Cause the Question was "Name the Rulers of England" and Mary never ruled England. Also, James didn't even rule England how Mary wanted to. He ruled England the way Elizabeth wanted him to(Elizabeth made him this way). So I guess we can say that In the end Elizabeth still wins
