@@Jacquiquinn901You can not be wrong in almost any place in Spain, but Alicante is for sure one of the best places you can go to live. Great nightlife, great beaches and nature, great weather almost the whole year, great food like everywhere in the country, you have the sea but also mountain, nice people, plenty of activities to do, etc. And for me something that people don't normally consider but in my opinion it is important: Alicante is not one of the biggest cities of Spain but has one of the most important airports, which makes it easy to have a bigger traveling offers so you don't normally need to go far if you want to take a plane, as you normally would be able to flight from Alicante. 100% recommended.

I'm coming at it from a UK point of view...maybe its different if you live elsewhere...but I think that the only thing we knew about Spain for decades was as a cheap tourist destination based around the Costa del Sol. Even in the 90s and 00s we learnt about Ibiza and Marbella...but only as upscale party destinations. Since the late 00s/early 10s we have started to realise just how amazing Spain is...especially for its food. Where previously we only knew about paella...then some basic tapas...we now know places like San Sebastian represent the highest level of culinary brilliance in Europe, if not the world. One day people will start realising that Spanish Cava is as good as champagne...and much better than prossecco...just as it became obvious how much better iberico bellota is compared to prosciutto!

Yes, interesting video but exactly my thought: Alicante underrated?! After Malaga and Valencia, it seems the most hyped part of Spain (based on "moving to/retiring to/living in Spain" groups I've joined). Not saying it isn't lovely and, who knows, maybe I'll end up there. But undiscovered or un-hyped, compared to so many other glorious areas? Definitely not.

I have been to basically all the top popular Spanish cities and then I spent a month in Alicante and I loved it so much, I miss it sooo much. To me, it’s quite important to have a beach nearby on vacation and Alicante delivered immensely, also you have access to several other neighbouring cities on the coastline that are to die for!! In the hinterland of the Comunidad Valencia there are many nice authentic villages such as Biar, Villena, Jijona, Ontinyent, Busot, Tarbena, Pinoso and Jalon. Palmeras, Alfafara and Alzira in the Albufera Natural Park, the rice mining area around Valencia. Worth a visit.

Alicante is very nice It is the alternative for Valencia if someone likes a somewhat smaller city but that is still vibrant and with lots of young people (students) In a way Barcelona ,Valencia and Alicante are all vibrant cities on the Mediterranean coast each with its old city (barri gotic) ., but Barcelona being the cosmopolitan mega city, Valencia the (a wee bit smaller) big regional capital city and Alicante the even smaller version. IMHO apart from the Comunidad Valenciana ,.Murcia is also very intersting region with Murcia and Caetagena.
@user-li1gg8pw8d
@user-li1gg8pw8d 3 ай бұрын
Valencia is an alternative to Alicante cause Alicante is more touristic and cosmopolitan than Valencia. There are more foreign people and bigger airport in Alicante than in Valencia. Moreover Alicante and Barcelona are sea focused cities, Valencia is a typical agriculture and industrial area growing towards the sea, so the city center is far from the sea and the culture is not sea focused, like Alicante, Málaga or Barcelona.
@corpi8784
@corpi8784 3 ай бұрын
@@user-li1gg8pw8d Yeah, Valencia is a sea city and has been for centuries. It is one of the busiest ports on the Mediterranean. True however that compared to Alicante Valemcia is more industrial and has (relatively per capita )less tourism.
@user-li1gg8pw8d
@user-li1gg8pw8d 3 ай бұрын
@@corpi8784 I disagree. Valencia grew up surrounded by agricultural fields and orchards, far from the sea, note that its historic center is not next to the sea. Over time they built the port, separate from the city and not only a few decades ago, the city joined the port. 70% of the region's tourism goes to Alicante, 20% to Valencia and 10% to Castellón. Valencia can be compared with Bilbao or Seville, Alicante with Malaga. Valencia port is quite industrial. 9 of the 10 nautical or recreative ports with blue fag are in Alicante, 1 in Castellón and none in Valencia. There is no Russian or USA people sailing in yachts in Valencia, but is normal in Alicante, Ibiza, Malaga. Anyway, that’s does make Valencia worse than Alicante, just different. 10 provinces or touristic areas more touristic in Spain. Baleares, Barcelona, Las Palmas, Alicante, Malaga, Madrid, Costa Brava, Costa Dorada, Cádiz, and then Valencia. More expats living in Spain, Alicante, Malaga, and then Barcelona, Mallorca and Madrid. Then Valencia.
@corpi8784
@corpi8784 3 ай бұрын
@@user-li1gg8pw8d i don' t exactly know what you're trying to argue here but the major role of Valencia and its port from medieval times onwards cannot be denied. I mean this goes right back to the times of the Spanish Reconquista ,and Valencia and the Balearic Islands share a histroically bond bc of that. The role that maritime trade as well as political expansion in the Mediterranean played especially for the Corona (Crown) of Aragon and later also for the Kingsom of Spain cannot be understimated- and Valencia was one of its main ports for that purpose. BTW no city is the same but there are definetely simlarities in their basic layout that stem from antiquiety and medieval times tnat these cities share and every Spanish city from Barcelona to Sevilla and beyond is surrounded by agricultural areas with smaller towns and communities.

Beautiful tour of Alicante. There are two things I noticed. Your last shot, at the top of the cadle, in front of a watch point. Is exactly like " La Garita del Diablo. In El Morro Castle in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The other thing is how much they like rice. We have rice and chicken rice and pork, rice and geen peas, and ricce and squid. Delicioso.

My favourite type of your videos (and I love them all!). 😊 Food, history, culture, perfect. Wish you'd visited Almería as that's my next destination and there aren't good English speaking videos that I can find. If Alicante is not on a bucket list, Almería seems even less considered.

Alicante City has everything in my opinion. I was there last week. It was my 5th visit. Close to the airport, beaches, restaurants, bars, marina, market etc. Not touristy at all.

Thanks James and Ali-Oli Tours.. Alicante looks amazing, I've only spent a few hours there on the way to the airport. Wish I'd have known how cool it is and could have planned a stay there. Another place to add to my list of holiday destinations. Thanks for sharing! 🙂😋😎❤

Beautiful, James ! Very comforting to my soul ! Thank you for this video, no, this moving picture of timelessness. I will never forget the esplanade of palm trees. You know, Apollo was born under a bronze palm tree on the island of Delos. Of course, you already know that ! If I was able to travel again without dying of a blood clot, I'd fly to Alicante, visit those churches, walk between the palm trees, sit by the beach, and hang out at the market eating tapas every day. All the best from Australia, amigo !

I really like it, too. We live just over an hour away and many people around us have never been there. We have a lovely friendly Boutique hotel and often go for an overnight stay. We recently went to the MARQ museum. There was a fantastic permanent display and we caught the end of the Terracotta Army exhibition. Wonderful. We often eat at Sellos. The stuffed mushrooms are to die for❤

I am from Alicante and we also call it paella, not just arroz. There are plenty of amazing restaurants (being respectful, better than some you visited). In fact, Alicante is one of the best foodie places to enjoy eating out (Cesar Anca, Nou Manolín, Los Ibéricos...)

My best friend in college in Madrid was from Alicante. They have longaniza de pascua, which is my favorite sausage ever. The downside was that they don’t do tapas. But the nightlife and beach made up for it. When I lived there it was nicknamed “Madrid’s beach” since people from the city had a direct line by train. Their Centro looks a lot like Callao, so it is like a mini Madrid in places.
