The Mink Box Set

Күн бұрынThe Mink Box is a portable cubby set, that is highly weather resistant. Removable doors with a round hole are utilized to increase versatility, increase the sets weather resistance, and play of minks instinct to explore holes.

Years ago I ran an entire line of nothing but bucket sets for coon. Awsome sets for responsible experienced trappers. Never tried mink boxes as it just didn’t seem logical. If you have mink on a stretch of water,your very likely going to have coon. Coon are going to make trouble with those small conis not to mention your staking/anchoring methods. Better off blind setting where you find them. Use a 1.5 coil and anchor well. If a coon stumbles into your set,you can catch them too. You can use your small body grips in roots,tunnels and the like where mink are going to travel anyway. Also the bottom edge set is an option. I’m sure the boxes will catch mink. I just figure for every mink caught,you’ll likely have to deal with 10 coons first. Tight chains my friend! Mike

I was struggling with frozen traps at the time. I liked the idea of a weatherproof set. It was a fun experiment. Thanks for watching.

I’ve subscribed after checking out your channel. Didn’t realize you had such a broad skill set. Nice!! I hear ya on frozen icy conditions. Our mink and rat season opens later (pa) on after coon Fox etc. seems like it’s always iced up or very close to it by the time we get to them. Our beaver season has opened the 26th of December for as long as I can remember. Always ice by then. (Although I think we may be getting an earlier date this year.) I thought of something I should have mentioned earlier but had long forgotten about it. When I was running those bucket lines for coon,I had another trapper show me a neat time saver for mink boxes if you ever want to try them again. He used to collect the news paper boxes that the paper company’s would put on a post next to your mailbox for delivery. Perfect size for a 110,made of plastic so they never rot,you can paint them and they cut easy for notches,or cutting the other side out to make it a tunnel. Some guys like drain tubes but the boxes are better imo. Square so the don’t roll easy and as I said perfect size for mink. Anyway,great channel!!

Why did you make your mink boxes so large? Also what size trap are you using?

The trap is a 5 inch 155 duke. I made the box to fit the trap.

Did you ever catch any mink in your boxes? Hole cover refusals?

I have nothing but raccoon problems with my boxes. I have caught a few raccoons in the sets but mostly they just wreck the set. In the extreme cold it's a pretty good option.

@@BurningRiverBushcraft go out after fresh snow and check for their tracks! They can be tricky to locate.
