99% of golfers won’t spend the time learning how to putt with precision. Yes a fitting will help. But, if you don’t spend the time actually learning how to putt then nothing will help. Just my opinion. I tried dozens of putters. Loved and hated a few. My putting got better when I stuck with one and spent hours on the putting green creating a repeatable putting stroke. Once you have a repeatable putting stroke THEN a fitting will be truly worth the expense. Again, just my humble opinion. Oops. I wrote this before watching the entire video. They summed it up quite well at the end. Good job Gents!

True words (even if you wrote before watching). Like I said in some other video's comments I'm gaming a 15 or 20€ Mitsushiba that I bought about ten years ago to try if a mallet type would help (was having a shaky kind of feeling with a blade). It helped and even after trying some "better" mallets during years I didn't see any gain from them (excpet counter balance, but I modded my own putter with a super stroke type of grip and added some weight there...). With putter it's mostly about the feel after technique is stable, so changing putter has a big chance of messing your game. Unless you're ready to put in the work to get familiar with it.

Biggest change for me was going to a significantly thicker grip. My Scotty Golo 5 had a traditional pistol grip on it and just wasnt getting on with it very well. Swapped in a Super Stroke and the results were immediate

I use a Bettinardi SS28 slot back. I love the FIT face milling and the way it frames the ball. This is the only putter that I've had supreme confidence with. Don't see changing any time soon.

I use a Rife Switchback Two model putter which works well. It has sets of removable heel and toe weights to adjust for green speeds. That way I don't have to make major adjustments if I am playing a course with very fast or very slow greens. I just change the weights on the practice green to see which ones work the best and then make only very minor adjustments to my stroke. I put a stiff graphite shaft in it so it is 37 inches. I can stand up straighter which is more comfortable and makes my stroke more consistent.

Just picked up a Rife 2 bar mallet putter. Easily the most comfortable putter to make a stroke with that I've ever played. Helps that the first putt ever made during a round with it was a birdie.

Jack Nicklaus said the difference between a good putter and a bad putter, is the good putter keeps his head still. Tiger Woods said having the ball directly underneath your left eye, for a right handed golfer, is the optimal position. Brad Faxon said the key is to have a flowing stroke, same distance/speed back through, using length of stroke to control distance. Ben Crenshaw said he holds the putter so lightly it almost falls from his hands. Steve Stricker does all of the above. Green reading ability, along with proper technique, is what makes you a good putter, because then you start believing you will hole putts.

I tried to use a mallet putter, but I just couldn't do it. I ended up getting rid of my odyssey o works #7 putter and bought a Tommy Armour Impact 1. It's a cheaper putter, but performed the best for me which is all that matters.

I got the Costco putter when it was on sale for $99, then bought the weights separate, and it out performs my old one by a mile. I have not added the shaft weight yet as I've seen some reviews where it's hard to get back out but would like to see if the handle is weighted would that make a difference on longer putts.

You need to test them on a real outside green and not on a mat in the shop - and try over a few sessions if you can (buy from your club pro?...... ). Really important to test a range of distances and breaks - I have a Newport that I love the concept of, but over 3 footers I can get a bit wavy with it. Was convinced that a toe hang spider would be great for me but over 2 testing sessions I just could not get line or pace. Ended up with a cleveland elevado which is almost automatic inside 3 ft but still have to work on pace from distance.

I have gone through blades, double wides, half mallet, mallet. None of have aided in improving my putting BUT I then got told by a pro in my clubhouse who saw me putting on the practice green outside the clubhouse to try his putter which was a centre shafted 40g weighted head. Took some practice strokes because of how heavy it felt then made some putts and I've managed to consistently putt the ball if not in then within tap in range so I think I'll be looking for a centre shafted putter

How about a comparison with low or no torque putters (LAB, Axis1, etc.). I was fitted into an Axis1 and chose the Tour-B, which suits my eye (more blade like - at least as much as it can be) and cuts down on glare. Perhaps I just needed a change of putters (I have always chosen/ felt more comfortable with more Anser style putters and thus, with toe-hang), but I am putting much better this summer, so I would just urge that golfers keep an open mind to all types ;-)

OK ... question for Chris. How about centre shaft putters? I think I would prefer a centre shafted putter because I think that would give me more consistency with finding the centre of the club. However, I simply can't find a centre shafted putter even though I do see some, not many, pro golfers using them. Do you have any opinion about whether centre shafts give any more consistency of strike?

Im gaming a heavily modified taylormade tp juno. I replaced the insert with a beautiful piece of wenge wood. The feel is exceptional but also offers feedback. 2.5 gram weight in the heel and 10 gram weight in the toe. Golf pride pro only red star pistol grip. I also shave the bevel on top of the heel down to make it lose a little heel weight and look better in my opinon. Putting is art but a big help for me was getting my putter shaft in perfect line with my fore arms at address. Since then im making more putts and nearly never missing short ones.

I putt with a $100 Wilson Infinite L putter and am by far the best putter in my group. They all game Scotty's. To me, it's more about grooving your putter stroke. Good putters can putt with just about any style putter IMO. Played with a guy for the 1st time last week who just bought a new PIng. He wouldn't stop bragging about it. Laughed at my Wilson on the 1st green saying it looked ancient... By the end of the round, he wanted to try a few putts with it.

One of the biggest things is how does it feel for you? If your not comfy with it then you won’t have confidence in it. The only putter I ever tried with an insert just felt dead, and immediately I was thinking not for me so I putt with a metal faced blade style. Ultimately technique will determine your success, just like buying new clubs they will not correct a faulty swing. I find the closer I get to the hole on approach shots less putts required, who would have thought it?

The thing most people get wrong when it comes to the putter is the length of the shaft. The wrong length changes your set up over the ball. That is more important than anything else, and most people have it wrong because they buy putters off the rack in whatever length the manufacturer sells. When you drop the ball to check your set up, you should drop it from between your eyes and the ball should fall right on top of the ball on the ground. If it does not touch the ball on the ground it means your eyes are not over the ball which is where they should be. Research the Todd Sones putter fitting system and you might be surprised to learn the length of putter you should be using.
