Jamestown Rediscovery Director of Archaeology, David M. Givens and Peter Leach, (Archaeology and Forensics Application Specialist, GSSI, Inc) explore the use of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to digitally trowel one of the earliest features built by English settlers, i.e., the 1608 Palisade Wall at James Fort.
In this video, David Givens describes the physical location and appearance of this early defensive structure. Peter Leach then explains how GPR can find archaeological features before they are excavated. To learn the best way to collect GPR results, David and Peter experiment with 2 different frequency GPR instruments, each set in two different antenna orientations (i.e., normal and cross-polarization).
This video offers both GPR-novices and GPR-experienced personnel important insight into how to collect and interpret GPR results from an archaeological feature.

Since I'm first, I'll just say that this technology is truly amazing and wonderful in the fact of what data it will provide . Great job!

Very interesting. I believe 3D reconstruction of the data was mentioned early in the video. Would love to see what that looks like.

I have watched some of the advancements with GPR on Time Team over the years. So this is fascinating to see more ways the technology is able to go. Thanks👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I know a bit about that type of penetrating radar from watching Time Team from the UK. But this technology seems more advanced then what I had watched before. Very very interesting and takes things to a new level. Mary

Did we get an update on this? Specifically, what were the results of the tests, and can we get an update of the 3D data? Thank you all for doing this fantastic work. I found this channel yesterday and I've been watching through many of these videos. I can't get enough of this stuff!

Did I miss something? What kind of tree was used for the posts. How wide are the post holes?

Can gssi be used without the frequency wheel? If so what is the difference?
