Just wondering, but does anyone notice that these 1930 Mickey Mouse films look SUPER smooth for the time? Especially the scenes where mickey dances!
@LeBatteur8 жыл бұрын
+RBLX&MCPlayer Well, unlike today's animation which is usually done mostly through programs that utilize a typically automated process called tweening (short for inbetweening), all animation in those days was done frame-by-frame. That means each frame of the animation was drawn out individually and then shown in rapid succession to create movement. To say nothing of the quality of each method (because both can have some lovely results), there is a certain organic quality about hand drawing each frame, which gives animation done that way (which includes pretty much every animated cartoon before computers began to be used for the process) a unique flavour, so to speak. Sort of like stop-motion animation, but because animators had their previous frame drawings beneath the current one, they could easily flip back and forth to fix minor details and create the smoothest animation possible.

Wow, thanks for briefing me on that. I hope more people know this!
@aussiekola23708 жыл бұрын
Yeah I noticed that, quite smooth indeed
@edgali8 жыл бұрын
Yeah. That's cause these people were extremely hard workers, and would draw out every frame very carefully.
@aussiekola23708 жыл бұрын
I'd watched something like this rather than nowdays cartoons, with just a few exceptions of those. but hey then again i'm a fanatic for those times. like from the 1930's to the early 1070's. IT's the culture back then.

Four and a half years and it'll be the 20s. (Unless of course you're one of those weirdos who starts counting at zero, then it's only three and a half years 'til the 20s.) Maybe they'll be "roaring."

Damn that was some really fine quality animation. Looks so good, still holds up today. And even with all the software and hardware we have today, there's no tool in existence which can help you make 2D animation like this unless you can do it already on paper by hand. Respect to all the 2D animators out there. - a 3D modeller/animator

No, I did not make the animations nor the music, but I did put the video together (and it did take me a reasonable amount of time to do so), and therefor credit for this video should be given to me, and to the rightful owners of the components used to make it.

This just reminds me how amazing old animation was. it looks way better and requires more time and skill rather than today's. today its usually done at the click of a button. ;-;
@LeBatteur8 жыл бұрын
While modern animation is definitely easier, now that programs and tools have been developed specifically to aid the process, the basic concept remains the same. The technology is easy to abuse, but all animation requires time, effort and skill regardless of the form you choose (2D, 3D, stop motion). There really is no such thing as pressing a button and having an animation made for you. Even in the programs that utilize tweening (in-betweening, which is a term previously used to describe the frames between two major points of movement in old animation), one still has to have a clear idea of what they want to achieve, draw out storyboards, design characters, sets, and choose points of movement to adhere to. There is no easy way to animate- the only difference now is that the computer can assist you. It cannot, however, do the work for you. Old animation was done frame-by-frame, each frame of animation drawn out by hand. And that process is still utilized in many of today's modern 2D animations. 3D is a relatively new ballpark, but it also requires talent- it's just a different set of skills. Bottom line, no form of animation is necessarily "better" than another, it all depends on how you utilize it, what you are trying to accomplish, and, of course, your idea.

my sister's actually an animator for a show that's coming out in October. and judged by how often she's there, it's pretty difficult. plus, for most shows, it's not in your drawing style. so you have to change how you draw just to make it look right.
