First overseas international final, back to back Euros finals when nobody had got us to one before, World Cup semi-final which is a damn sight further than many took us. You can say there was room to do better, or even that he should have done better, but to insinuate he didn't achieve anything is, to be frank, childish in the extreme 🤦

Tuchel is the man, surely? Ten major trophy wins under his belt. No current ties to any club (therefore no compensation to pay out) and can start immediately. He commands his technical area and gets the best out of his players. Southgate was just sat there praying for miracles.

Terry Venables and Bobby Robson were by far better coaches but didn’t have Southgate’s luck. Spain had 66% possession against England with almost 200 more passes completed and 11 corners. Guess what the stats were vs Germany? Spain only had 48% possession , only 1 corner in 120 minutes and 70 passes completed less than Germany. Southgate luck in every tournament was the easy side of the draw

If England wants to win a trophy they can go a for a big name manager that knows how to beat teams that are better than his team technically or squad wise. That would be someone like Tuchel given how he performed against RM and City in UCL when he had a more inferior team to work with. Only downside is he sets up fireworks if he doesn't get his way. On the other hand, if England want to establish more possession football style and get the players be comfortable to receive and hold the ball in tight spaces, then they should go for manger from Spain.

Gareth Southgate coached England in a dignified manner. However theirs an old saying, victory has many fathers mothers and friends but defeats an orphan. So yes it was the right time for him to walk away. As for the new England coach. ( Everyones an expert) linekar shearer and Richards are very opininated so let one of them have the job. People have such short memories and don't seem to realise that sport at the highest level comes down to the finest of margins, some examples - if Lingard scored that sitter in 1st half vs Croatia, if Rashford scored his penalty, if Kane didn't miss that penalty Vs France, and even if Rice or Guehi scored against Spain we may all be having much different conversations.

if That penalty that was a clear penalty against Spain would have been given. You'd probably have played Germany in the final. OR another great story about Germany. If they had actually LOST that game vs Switzerland that they equalized in the 90+ minute to get first in groups...they would have gotten Switzerland's spot on the easy side of the draw. And England would have probably been out in the quarterfinals.

HOWEVER...interestingly i think it actually fits PERFECTLY into a national team system rather than club. Since you dont actually meet people every day. Only few times a year. how far a team goes is the result of the quality of the players, the efforts they make, luck AND the coach, in this case, Southgate had good players, a lot of luck, but he cost his team by clearly omitting some players (not only did he leave Grealish at home, he didn't use a left winger at all !, instead he put three players in two places (Saka, Foden, Bellingham just cannot play together, none of them is a left winger, two like to play in the center, and two like to play on the right wing, it's an idiotic decision and was easy to fix !, and while Kane wasn't in top form, the situation behind him made this worse, England didn't deserve to go this far in the tournament at all.
