An exclusive interview with Legendary Drummer, Jamie Oldaker, presented by The Church Studio “Legends.”
James Oldaker was born September 5, 1951, in Tulsa, Oklahoma and is rock music, blues rock, and country music drummer and percussionist. He is an exponent of the shuffle style. He is married to Mary Billings-Oldaker. One of the first bands that Oldaker was a member of was called The Rogues Five in 1965. The Rogues Five saw regional success and opened for popular bands such as The Doors. After a stint in Bob Seger's band and The Gap Band, Oldaker joined Eric Clapton in 1974 during the recording of 461 Ocean Boulevard.
Oldaker has also recorded with musicians such as The Bellamy Brothers, Asleep at the Wheel, Peter Frampton, Stephen Stills, Leon Russell, Ace Frehley, Freddie King, The Bee Gees and the Tractors. In August 2005, Oldaker released Mad Dogs & Okies on Concord Records, a collection of tunes celebrating the music and musicians of Oklahoma, which he produced. Collaborators include Eric Clapton, Vince Gill, J. J. Cale, Willie Nelson, Ronnie Dunn, Bonnie Bramlett, and Joe and Ellen.
Jamie was an advocate for young musicians, music education, and founder and co-host with his wife of MOJO Fest, an outdoor festival. Jamie lost his courageous battle to cancer on July 16, 2020.

Profound - without a doubt! I suspect Mr. Oldaker is correct when he said Clapton's music would've gone in a different direction had he stayed with Leon. EC's Okie band will always be my favorite with the exception of The Dominos.

I fully appreciate your years with Eric Clapton but to say you were the catalyst for his career is beyond a stretch. Prior to you Eric was with Delaney & Bonnie. Most of that band became Leon's people. All of the Dominos had played with Leon. Eric knew J.J.Cale through Delaney Bramblett. Good interview but please give credit where credit is due.
