I got my book signed by Jamie this evening at Barnes & Noble! He's so lovely. I'm British and he actually has a house near where I grew up and so I actually ran into him at the store about 5 years ago. He's so personable and chatty and witty and caring. A true inspiration.

I've always loved how certain words are pronounced in both British and American English and Jamie Oliver talked about the tomato and how he pronounced it in the pure British style on an American show, I thought it was great and that's what I really like about English, which is a very beautiful language. IMHO!

Wow! I knew Jamie back when he still had his band Scarlet Division! Wow! So many years ago! I communicated directly with him a few times and also with his best mate (Leigh Haggerwood) and I also met the singer in his band briefly (I only remember her first name). In fact, it was Leigh who made sure I could speak direct with Jamie. Jamie is very personable! Via computer/personal email he taught me the next level of cooking! He introduced me to how to put more love into cooking, which believe it or not is done via music. I always believed that cooking and music go together and I think that is what compelled our interaction. Talk about inspiration: There was a grocers strike at the time and without knowing it straight away, Jamie inspired me to make dishes for the workers on the lines as funds were running out for them. I would visit a market once or twice a week and serve up some dinner to them. It was a big hit, which I did not think I was at that level, but after the strike a bunch of them got together and gave me an award. The big payoff was the gratitude and their faces and reactions when I would show up. When asked why I did it and what made do it, my answer: "Jamie Oliver". I had already been in the study of the technical side of cooking and Jamie showed me the emotional side, which makes all the difference! We lost touch after a year or two as life gets busy. His bandmates and all were also very lovely and generous to me on the music side.

"One-pan-8 ingredients or less" cooking concept reminds me of the Australia's Highest Selling Cookbook Series written by Kim McCosker: "4 ingredients", which became the best selling self-published book in Australian history, selling 400,000 copies in 2007 alone. McCosker's '4 Ingredients' has gone on to reach a total sales mark of over 3 million copies... Whishing Jamie the same publishing success or even more.

The thing that struck me about this series is how dated it seems. The plates are still way too small and the wooden boards that went out years ago, are still around, with more food on the table than the plates. And despite Jaimie's efforts, things like fennel seeds are still considered 'out there.' Jaimie's still very likeable - but go easy on the caramels.

the problem with/of people who don't cook is NOT a lack of recipes. it's a lack of certain executive functions. Look it up, View staff... Executive functions problems are the biggest non secret in the world. Neurologists have known about EFs for 60 years, and even where they are located in the brain. So all these books that claim to solve that problem are far off in left field. Recipe books are for people who already love to cook and do it well.

Very few Americans actually cook at home, and when they do the food for the most part is appalling - and the same goes for the Brits. It's takeaways all the time. The average British middle class child doesn't eat as well as the average Asian. They have a culture where families eat together. They all help with the food prep. And the food is brilliant. The average Brit wouldn't know how to peel a potato, and the average American doesn't know what fresh garlic looks like. True.
