"Just in cases" is the best line in the movie. Not sure why, but it is.

This is the best scene in the movie. No matter how many times I watch it, my chest swells with emotion every time. Every detail adds so much. When Jamie hesitates before entering, Aurelia's father gently touches his back in encouragement, giving Jamie the courage to cross the threshold. Everyone in the restaurant gawks at this obvious outsider, wondering what the heck is he doing here with a mob of people. Many look irritated, others don't quite know what to think. But the more Jamie talks, the more he wins their approval. The fact that Jamie says he expects Aurelia to say no, only impresses them more. This is not a confident man or an arrogant foreigner. This is a man who expects to be rejected, and he's giving her an easy way to say no, no matter what his hopes. But he's willing to make a fool of himself, and risk having his heart broken, because he can't live without her. Talk about romantic gestures! The staging is romantic too. It's straight out of Romeo and Juliet. Aurelia is standing on a balcony, while Jamie proposes from below. He's throwing himself at her feet. When Aurelia responds in English, it melts your heart. She, too, has taken a chance. She learned English hoping he will return to her one day. Even though they're standing in a sea of people who are listening to every word, it's still a private moment. No one but Jamie knows she's just accepted his proposal. I love how she says "easy question." When the applause breaks out you see the admiration for a man willing to make himself vulnerable very, very publicly to pursue the woman he so obviously loves. Only to find out that she loves him too. They can't help but be thrilled for Jamie, the awkward outsider who doesn't even speak their language well. It's written all over everyone's faces. That kind of bravery deserves applause. He took a huge risk and it paid off for them both. Bravo, indeed.

The Colin Firth bits was the best parts of Love Actually.

I think the story of those two deserves a separate movie by itself. The whole idea of them trying to communicate in different languages is just special.

Aurelia's smile stopped my heart. Such natural beauty. It still has the same affect on me, but now I shed a tear or two. Stupid romantic man. 🥰

Such a rare thing nowadays - a reasonably wholesome feel good movie - I will always enjoy watching this movie.

“Just in cases.” How beautiful is that, really. For one, they both struggled with each other’s language, but they each were making a big effort, for the other’s sake. But also, she had no idea if she’d ever see him again. She didn’t know he was going to come looking for her, and thus she learned his language so she could find him again. And then there he was, having learned her language for the same reason. ❤❤❤

That silence in the hall is heavy. You can "hear" the hope of each person there. Beautiful scene. Is it only me thinking " wish I was proposed like that ", it could have melted me for any day to come. ❤❤

Aurelia's poor English is acting. Lúcia Moniz studied in Minnesota as a girl and has spent a lot of time in the Boston area. So in addition to being beautiful and artistically talented, she is also a fluent English speaker.

No matter how many times I watch this movie, I always tear up at this scene

I just realized that this scene is not good because of good writing or because of the two actors. That"s all just a cheesy stuff with simple jokes. What makes it amazing is the how all the other people got captured in the room. They don't even say or do anything but their presence is elevating the whole scene.
