Unfortunately, Jammy filled for bankruptcy so this product is not available anymore. Old comment: Hey! I started making this video before Firmware 2.0 and I had mixed feelings. Then with Firmware 2.0, its playability improved a lot. The Jammy G works well as a MIDI controller, so I'm excited to see how the EVO version plays when it comes out. Sometimes I had to turn off sliding if I wanted to play fast, but you can do a lot with it. It requires more precision than a guitar because any little note or mistake is sent as a MIDI note. That's it, as always, I try to keep it honest in my channel. I appreciate any feedback you may have! Thanks!

New subscriber here. Does the Jammy G have a standard or 3.5mm MIDI output so you can plug it into hardware synths directly?

@@shitmandood It doesn't have MIDI output but they announced an add-on called MIDI Frame that adds 5-pin DIN, and TRS outputs that starts shipping in Summer. is.gd/qcekRD Without this you would have to route a MIDI output from your computer to the hardware synth.

@@WasabiNoise Nice. Thanks for the quick reply! I just went over and noticed the pre-order. It looks like it might be a good purchase with that MIDI frame component, pretty much gives you free reign over MIDI at that point for a pretty cheap price considering what it can do.

I've been banging my head against the wall trying to learn piano so I can write music with midi instruments (edm, cinematic, etc) but I've been playing guitar for 20 years! freaking game changer.

I just want to add that I sent a terse email to them about MIDIs and their product in general, and they got back to me with a product manager with answers including a ton of vids answering my personal questions, explanations about MIDIs and DAWs, and more. Must have taken half an hour to send me all that. Super impressed with their customer service and help. By the way, let's not forget this is under $400. We can't expect it to be an end all.

Can you set the tuning to be like a baritone guitar (that is, a 4th to a 5th lower than standard tuning)?

You can actually tune it in any way you want, there's a custom tuning setting where you just choose the note you want each open string to be, so it is possible. It's not something I tinkered with but it's pretty straightforward, it has to be possible.

Thanks for the review. There are a lot out there that don't give nearly as clear a representation of the instrument. Being an older dude, I've had experience with most of the guitar synths and MIDI controllers starting in the late '80s. Fishman Triple Play or the Midi Guitar 2 software solution both work as well as anything if you want to use your regular guitar. I personally am not interested in combining the guitar sound because I want to edit the MIDI sequence in my DAW. There are definitely more stringent technical playing requirements in order to get clean MIDI and I think this version or the newer "e" might be the latest ticket. I do feel like the company really fails to market it properly in the way they focus too much on massive synth sounds instead of the accuracy of the MIDI data. Cheers.

Thanks for the kind words. I wanted to make clear in the video that I'm not a guitarist and show my experience being open about that. I bet a lot of people wanting to buy this find themselves in a similar situation as well. You have to be very precise with your playing and spend time tweaking its settings. On the other hand it's really cool to be able to play some type of chords effortlessly and I had a lot of fun with it. Thanks!

If you're serious about MIDI guitar, Serum, Omnisphere, etc...then skip the Jammy toy and get a Jamstik MIDI Studio guitar for parellel MIDI and analog... You will thank me later... :)
