Today's jam is a full improvisation. I decided for my last video of Jamuary 2021 to do a full unedited jam from start to finish. The result is really nice, I think, and I think it's kind of fun to leave in the "mistakes" as the track is going. I couldn't resist the urge to jam a bit with the new Plumes pedal, and I think building the overdriven loop really added some tension to the piece. Enjoy!
Guitar: Custom Fender Telecaster with Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in both pickup positions.
Pedal Board: Earthquaker Plumes into TC Electronic Alter Ego Vintage Echo x4 and Snakebite Reverb
Amp: Vox MV50 AC (Recorded from Line Out)
Ch. 1: Ravenscroft 275, processed by Kosmonaut and Stratosphere Cloud Reverb, sequenced by Fugue Machine
Ch. 3: Digitalism 2000 processed by Stratosphere Cloud Reverb, sequenced by Atom Piano Roll
Ch. 4: Patterning 2, processed by IK MixBox
Ch. 5: Moog Model 15, processed by BLEASS Delay and Reverb sequenced by Aphelian
Ch. 8 and 9: Guitar, processed by IK MixBox and Stratosphere Cloud Reverb, looped by Enso
(Compression and EQ added in Final Cut Pro)

Oh that was good....the guitar was a particular highlight - hints and shades of Sylvian and Joy Division at times. Your Jamuary sessions stand as an inspirational body of work for me (and others!) to go back and explore, learn and dare I write, actually get down to composing and finishing a piece of work! Thank you Jacob. I note that a number of your apps don't seem to be used much. Is their a suite of apps you regularly go back to and why? Best wishes, Ian

Thanks, Ian! I really appreciate your feedback! For this series, I mostly used the apps that I am super comfortable with and know that I can get to the sound I want quickly. I have a lot of apps that I love, but they just take awhile to get where I want to with them. For example, Kaspar is one of my favorite synths out there, but because the presets aren't labeled by function (Lead, Bass, Pad) it takes me awhile to find a starting point. It's also a pretty complicated engine, so designing a sound takes awhile. For the Jams, I was usually building the tracks pretty quickly, during my office hours at the university, or in between lessons, so I avoided the apps that would take longer to set up. I'm actually working a video series that will showcase my 5 favorite apps for different categories (synths, bass, drums, etc...). Look for it soon! Thanks again for listening!

@@MobileMusicMaker You are most welcome! I look forward to comparing notes in the future. I am fascinated by AUM and Gauss as I come from more of a formal music background where musical ideas are carefully and methodically recorded into a physical or virtual recorder such as Aria Pro or way back on a Tascam Portastudio! The idea of using an app to generate notes never occurred to me as I would play them in and edit or re-record. I want to incorporate my guitars and other non electronic instruments more and perhaps look at sampling too

Awesome! I'd love to hear your music. Believe it or not, my background is in academic music as well. I have a Master's in Music and my senior recital was a composition recital, which featured pieces ranging from a sax quartet, to brass choir, a 12-tone vocal piece, all the way to an electronic piece generated in FL Studio. We should do some collaborating!

@@MobileMusicMaker You are too kind and generous but thank you. I am a little rusty but encouraged to explore more after watching your videos. Happy to explore but temper your expectations! I should clarify my musical journey has been entirely self taught apart from the violin.

Hi Logan. I’ve watched the full video here. Made sure I had the same apps you are using. Thank you for this evenings work which I found inspiring and educational. Would you be able to do Berlin School 70’s style via AUM? (Tangerine Dream style) Would love that and to learn how to reproduce that special sound. Thank you again Logan
