I generally just wad it up with no forethought, which ends up with more wrinkles. eeek! I also do the sewing method slightly different - I start in the bottom left to top right to top left bottom right.

A very interesting video I have never used the sewing method. I will have to try it. I have stitched for a long time so hard to teach a old stitcher new ways, not sure I could do it on linen.I love your videos. Take care............

Never hurts to try. And you may find that it just isn’t for you, and that’s fine, and then you’ll know. But really, if you’re happy with the way you stitch, this would be just for curiosity than anything else.

Eyelets are fun to stitch. I would stitch more in hand but my little finger goes numb from gripping the fabric, a 6 inch hoop solves that and I can still use a sewing motion. Love your projects!

Thank you Jan. After watching you I see we stitch very similarly. I use safety pins to hold the rolled fabricg. by pinning up near the top and near the bottom. Not anywhere near I will be stitching. Thanks again

Jan, I love your Harbour Haven. I am considering stitching it over one as well just because it's so large. Your fabric is great for this piece, great colours, just wondering if you recall which fabric you used?
@JanHicksCreates
@JanHicksCreates 3 жыл бұрын
It is a 28 ct linen by Crossed Wing Collection. I don’t know the exact name of the colorway, but I know there are a number of people who got in touch with them to do a custom dye of whatever ct fabric they wanted for this. Hope this helps!

Your stitching is so pretty! Cat hair is a part of my everyday existence too-lol. I used to stitch in hand and went to hoops and Qsnaps. I don't know why I changed. I will try the hair clip idea for holding fabric. I've tried the clips that you would use to tie your hair up in the back and hold in place but they have plastic teeth and can leave a hole in the fabric. This might work better. Thanks for the stitch tutorial. I was wondering about that symbol right in the middle. You stay safe in the storm.
@JanHicksCreates
@JanHicksCreates 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mary! Yes, I used those hair clips to begin with, too, because that’s what I had. I realized very quickly that they weren’t good for the fabric, so yeah, these lightweight ones work well. Plus, I can use them to hold back my bangs when they are annoying me! LOL

Thanks Jan! That Playing with Jax design is gonna be one of my next starts and I’m thinking about taking the little face off that center pumpkin and shading a little so that piece would be great for Thanksgiving too!
@JanHicksCreates
@JanHicksCreates 5 жыл бұрын
There’s actually an alternative chart in there for that pumpkin instead of using the face. I think it has leaves on it. That’s the one I’m going to do, too, instead of the face.

Your stitching is beautiful Jan! I need to practice practice practice stitching in hand. I love the freedom of not having hoops and stands and all that stuff and being able to just grab a project and start stitching. I know this is an older video but I'm catching up! On your Tis the season, are you using the called for colors? Your cardinal is a beautiful red!
@JanHicksCreates
@JanHicksCreates 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I agree, the freedom of stitching in hand makes it so much easier! I am not using the called for colors. I didn’t want to spend the money on silks, so I am using things I have on hand that are similar.

Great Tut Jan.. I would love to stitch in hand- but I found that because I tend to stitch on higher counts- it drove me bonkers- trying to get needle- up and over and still stay on top.. Make sense?? lol... And- I am a one x at a time girl- so I had to try and figure that out... Another dilemma for me- at least- was that I can't set still- so my lighting- is never good enough.. I stitch with a hoop- and my little hammerhead light clips on- and then- as I squiggle all over- my light goes with- lol.. Not for nothing- I am still going to keep trying- because it would be nicer to not have to "set up" every time I want to stitch.. :) Anywho- thanks for sharing!!!! Hugs!!! xoxo Niki
@JanHicksCreates
@JanHicksCreates 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, having the hoop to put your light on would certainly help if you’re moving around a lot. I do stitch mostly on higher count fabrics, 32 ct probably being the lowest I prefer to use, and I think the manipulation of the needle is just another one of those learned skills. Practice makes perfect and all that! Also, I agree that doing a one 2 at a time can be a pain. I have learned where I have to go up and down, whether I’m moving to the left or right, to make it work. Maybe I need to do a video showing that kind of detail, too! Thanks for the idea! ❤️

I think if I could get a system- of doing a full x- at a time- I could do it- and get better- faster over time... I just ordered an extra table top ott light too- soooo- maybe if I drag that over by the edge- of my table- where I set- that will help??? Gonna play around with stufff... lol.. It's in my nature to do so!!! he he.. Thanks Jan!!! xoxo

I bit the bullet and ordered the pattern for this, having seen just how beautiful it is on yours and others' Floss Tubes (nice enabling, everyone!). I'm just waiting on my threads to arrive across the pond from Nancy, and have ordered some grey 40 count linen to try out. 32ct is my go-to linen, but I really want to try some higher count. Hoping everything arrives soon so I can get going with it!

Can you use Aida to sew in hand?
@JanHicksCreates
@JanHicksCreates 5 жыл бұрын
Definitely! You may find that you have to do something to soften up the fabric a bit so it’s easier to hold in your hand, but it will soften naturally as you handle it more anyway. I say, give it a try and see what you think!
