I have 3c/4a hair and I find that the trick is detangling thoroughly beforehand and letting the blow dryer do most of the curl straightening while the flat iron takes care of the frizz

peepla7 I recently had a silk blowout n I told my stylist how I feel bout heat n she did only 1 pass. She made sure my hair was silky str8 during the blowout process. The end result was amazing. I have thik coarse wooly hair

plush furr still impressive to me. Here.....I've not seen thus skill level.

There are 2 types of 4A, silky and coarse. Neither are nappy.

I recently straightened my hair after not straightening/trimming for 4 years too and boy did the hair dresser have to cut off a lot of hair cuz of the single strand knots. I lost like 3 inches but my hair is now easy to handle cuz those ends are gone

Single strand knots are normal for me. I no longer let them bother me. However I did straighten at the 2 year mark and lost quite a bit.

It’s helps keep the shape of the hair and “bouncyness” (I know it’s not a word) because it holds it all in place while the hair cools for a few minutes!:) I do the same for my clients as well.

@Shayanne Exactly! I think the thicker your strands, the healthier looking and bouncy your results will be. Thicker strands can withstand heat better and also have a little more weight to keep the strand elongated. I've seen thick stranded 4b and c's get the same results.
