This song changed everything. That bassline, the synth chords, the chord changes. She took The System, D Train, The Gap Band, and Herbie and mixed it up and created a MONSTER. An anti love song that makes you feel good. Classic.

I played that song so damn loud back in the day. She had a great funk synth sound going.

I was a huge Jane Child fan. I wish she would've had a longer and more successful career. She wrote, produced, & played nearly every instrument on all her songs (similar to Prince). So talented. I wish she'd make a comeback. She is married to Cat Gray from "Let's Make a Deal".

At first glance you see the hair, the piercings and you think "Don't mess with her". Take a second look at her, you can see a gentle, fun, and a vulnerable woman. Perfect example of not to judge someone by appearance alone.

This was back when a studio musician / studio rat could have a shot at a breakout song. Have a look at Robbie Nevil "Wot's it to Ya" and "Cest La Vie" ,and "Dominoes" massive talent

Her style and sounds were waaaay ahead... I remember people freaking out over how she looked but now all that's in style...

You're right, Jamal. This song did peaked at the #2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and peaked at the #6 on the Billboard Black Single chart both in the early winter of 1990. Jane Child is one of the first white female singers to do well on the black singles chart.

Jane Child is a LEGEND in the early 90s. Singer, songwriter, and record producer. She wrote songs & produced songs for many other famous artists in the late 80s up to the late 2K. She was at times a "mad scientist" at producing songs for others.

How funny, I just rediscovered this track recently & there was a reason it was a radio mainstay back in the day: it's a banger. Same goes for 80s Pop bands like Curiosity Killed The Cat, Nu Shooz, & The System.

This is about as perfect as any pop song could ever be. This may be over 30 years old, but it sounds just as good as anything being released now.

A white girl from Toronto comes out with a banging smash hit that has SOUL written all over it. Never gets old. The chord progressions on this are stonking - and the chords in that middle 8 leading up to the synth solo - goosebumps. Jamal - you were 'feelin' it!

I was (and still am) a metal head back in the day, but I loved this lady for her voice,talent and looks. 🥰😂 She rocked for pop/rock with an edge.

Jamal the 80's were the BIRTH of the music video with MTV. When it came out it was EPIC and one of the greatest days of my life. The tone was set in the 80's with MTV and the DJ's - I loved every minute.
