Graeme O'Neil takes a look at Jane Fonda's eventual finale at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, where she threw a certificate at the Palmes D'Or winner, both praised and slammed Robert Redford, criticized her own 2023 film roles, and forgot about a documentary that she was in.

Ok so she has reached an age where she says what she wants. What age was that ? 5? This lady went to visit American POWS held by the North Vietnamese. They handed her notes describing how they had been tortured hoping she would get those notes to American authorities. Jnstead, she handed to notes to the Viet Cong captors and the Americans were tortured even more after she left. This Nepobaby has lived in the lap of luxury her entire life and has never shown any compassion to anyone besides herself. Perhaps it's ok to admire her but maybe, there are other people more worthy of adminiration.

It is a good thing that Robert Redford still maintains his classiness. There is a reason why he does not go out of his way to make comments about fellow actors.

Isn’t it funny that when American women get rejected they say “the man has problems with women”. He doesn’t want you, deal with it. Women reject a hundred men… but if a man rejects her, “he has problems with women”. Maybe he doesn’t want a woman with a super high body count.

@@donaldmaxie5264 There are a few comments about "Hanoi Jane" so let me add my two cents worth... Jane Fonda was the only actress in the USA to have the courage to stand up to the evil side of America and say out loud that the invasion of Vietnam was wrong, wrong and more wrong. The USA has the best and the worst of everything and the very worst is that Americans think they have the right to go into other people's nations and destroy those nations and kill the population for not other reason than they don't agree with the duly elected popular leaders of the nations they invade. Jane Fonda had the courage to stand up to the evil side of America and say so. Furthermore she lived to tell the tale. She is one of the few true living legends who stand by what they believe - has the courage to say and is an American hero. In this day and age of total cowardice it is refreshing to see.

@Cassandra She may have had the right position, and she protested like millions of others did at that tumultuous time, but her position as actress and activist enabled her to be photographed sitting with the enemy, while thousands of American soldiers, and many by the way, had no choice in being sent to Vietnam, died. Also many Vietnamese, who bravely fought along side our soldiers died. So, while she gets respect for being an accomplished actress, her actions while “protesting” war were not honorable or respectable. It was more than appropriate that she apologized for her conduct. Our soldiers deserved more.
@Lilah1754

@Cassandra I haven’t given JF a thought, until I came across this vid. I lived during the time of Vietnam war, & knew young( very young) men that lost their lives during that war. I never blamed JF for the war, & she had a right to protest like others did, but to be photographed sitting on a tank with the enemy was very wrong. So, it’s not a matter of making myself feel better, it’s a fact. Never said anything about gov’t being right, just about her decision to be photographed as she was, being very wrong, and how it was the right thing to do in apologizing, as I believe our soldiers deserved. Maybe you Mis-read my reply. I put the blame on her for her bad judgement, not for the war. And by the way there is nothing lol about it. Also, I am not a thing. I am a person.

@@charlotteparry8585 I suspect she may have dementia in which case she really can’t help herself. My dad who also had dementia before he died, became very unfiltered and said, whatever came into his head it was really embarrassing. She strikes me the same way. I remember her as being kind and thoughtful in interviews I’ve seen of her. She doesn’t seem like that at all in this particular video, I suspect we will eventually learn that she has dementia. I could be wrong in which case she’s acting like a jerk.

Actors' psyches, emotions and bodies are their stock in trade, their communicative medium. Their profession demands attention to their own behaviors, thoughts and feelings and those of actors with whom they interact, play off of. If they get negative feedback from another actor, to improve themselves they need learn why. Likely Jane aptly concluded that Hepburn was just hyper competitive with her, as a closest most-Oscars record contender.

On returning home a mother asked how many babies did i kill as she poured the contents of a baby bottle in my face and uniform.

She's just an 85 year old with onset dementia. One of the early symptoms is loss of normal inhibitions, resulting in inappropriate behaviour and utterances, fits of anger and an inability to conduct themselves in ways that suit the social context. Sad. She should be in a safe environment where her dignity is protected and her health is monitored and managed. The fact that she cannot see it herself is an indication that there's a big problem. Shame on those who are parading her out their for entertainment value and monetary gain.
