World Chimpanzee Day, every year on July 14th, unites people all around the world in celebrating the innate value, complexity, and importance of our closest living relatives in the animal kingdom - chimpanzees. The day honors the anniversary of the moment in 1960 when 26-year-old Jane Goodall first stepped foot onto the shores of Lake Tanganyika in Gombe, Tanzania to study these mysterious and wonderful beings, forever changing our relationship with the animal kingdom and the natural world. For World Chimpanzee Day 2023, Dr. Jane Goodall shares her thoughts as we celebrate our #ChimpanzeeConnection demonstrating the ways in which chimpanzees are so connected to us, other wildlife, and the natural world as a keystone species in the vast intertwined web of life. Together we will grow connection, understanding, protect wild endangered populations, and improve wellbeing for captive chimpanzees.
This year - the fifth anniversary of this powerful celebration - Dr. Jane Goodall and the Jane Goodall Institute global chapters are calling on everyone to rediscover their #ChimpanzeeConnection to grow compassion and action for closest living relatives in the animal kingdom!
