This is when music was treated like art. You can tell she put a lot of thought into this project. Now music is just churned out with minimum creativity and effort by artists and that's why the public doesn't support the music business the way they used to.

+terpgirl06 This is Janet at the peak of her game, an artist in control of her craft and the fact that she looked like the music...in all her funky, edgy glory just makes it that much better.

I’d say Velvet Rope is Janet’s Definitive Album. Definitely her best work in my eyes 💜
@jzcruzer947 жыл бұрын
Her magnum opus, an album which push boundaries to mainstream, an album and era that envelopes the need of acceptance, domestic violence, social media, homophobia, curiosity of sexuality and loving yourself despite being hurt and recovering from depression. R&B and Pop album with trip hop(GTIG, My Need, You), folk rock(Special), electronic(Empty), house(Together Again, Go Deep) and bass(Anything, Rope Burn). P.S. A lot of artists followed this kind of formula even once in their discography thanks to Janet, Jimmy and Terry.

João Vitor I love this album and stripped, too. I hate that it came so early in Christina's career, because I've not been satisfied with anything she's put out since then cause I always compare it to stripped.

Mario Miguel Scharer Christina should've waited until she was in her late 20s/early 30s to do an album about self-reflection like Stripped. Back To Basics and Bionic were good, but the songs just weren't great the way the songs from Stripped were. As for Lotus... I'm not even gonna comment about Lotus. LOL.

This era TO ME took Janet from being " Janet, Michaels talented sister" to being .... Janet the Artist....
@CaapriceTube17 жыл бұрын
I'd say more so the.janet album from 1993, but this album her international success grew even more and Michael was no longer in his prime by 1997, so she was like the only big Jackson by then.
@firasharb14547 жыл бұрын
But MJ came out with BOTDF in May of 97 month before janet released VR that same here and while MJ was still going on tour that same year , so he was STILL popular and big then .

Nah. Rhythm Nation definitely catapulted her into global success. Most successful debut tour by ANY artist of all time.
@laracroftvideos3 жыл бұрын
Imo, she's always been an artist. Control was the album that put her name on the map, but with Rhythm Nation 1814 she'd already established herself as an artist that can stand on her own. After that, "janet." & "The Velvet Rope" just continued to add to the legacy and she also started experiencing success internationally (for the first time).

Her artistic choices and interview responses were incredibly forward thinking. She was far more progressive than her latter years and her contemporaries. It’s unfortunate that the industry and public opinion were successful in curtailing that.
