The sample is from "Big Yellow Taxi" by Joni Mitchell. The voices of all three meshed really well on this track. Janet brought neo-soul to the pop world.

This song was part of one of Janet's most personal albums, so that's why you can tell a stark difference. This video highlights the apartheid in South Africa. Janet spent some time in Africa before this album. You'll see more of this in her video "Together Again," which I recommend for a react.

Jack Reacts the video was based on South African apartheid. The end of the video had a sign that said “Europeans only” and they threw a bottle at it. Also Qtip and Janet starred in the movie Poetic Justice together. “I Get Lonely” the original version is one of her most well known classic r&b songs.

This song came from THE Velvet Rope Album. That’s an album you’d have to experience. Janets sound changed on this album because she was going through a deep depression at the time. The album is very dark for a pop/r&b album. It explores self evaluation/exploration, depression, abuse, sexuality, bondage, AIDS...and sonically, it’s a masterpiece. it’s one of the most unique albums done by an pop artist. Check it out. U have a good ear too. Got Til It’s Gone does include a J Dilla sample, mixed with Joni Mitchell. Janets super production team, Jimmy Jan & Terry Lewis, produced this & many of her hits, she wrote the lyrics. The other songs from this album were I Get So Lonely, Together Again, Go Deep, Everytime and You. They all have videos.

Great reaction! Its one of my favourite songs. The video itself is based on south african apartheid, a racial seggregation system that existed from around 1940s to 1990s. The video represents freedom against the segregation, hence the bottle breaking on the sign at the end of the video. Janet also won a grammy for this video. Please react to "I get Lonely" by Janet.

Janet wanted the video to show a background abt the African vibes. Also, in her own words -- "'Got 'Til It's Gone' is about a great lesson learned - appreciate what you have while you have it. In my life, I try to take nothing for granted, even if I don't always succeed." Gave a similar sentiment, saying its theme "echoes the old proverb 'you don't miss the water till the river runs dry'" and also abt the pain she endured growing up and abt her own self esteem issues

I really enjoy your channel! Just a little FYI on Janet: The thing with Janet is that music was optional for her because she was born into it. I point this out because Janet only made albums when she had something to say from her life. So there would normally be about 4 year gaps between albums and each album became more/less her diary of what she was going through at that time in her life. She writes and produces all of her work (with Jimmy Jam/Terry) - all backgrounds, melodies, harmonies, everything - is Janet singing. Because she isn't a power vocalist, she maintains the same singing volume for every track (which allows her to dance and sing at the same time - she thinks about choreography when she's making the songs which influences how she sings each song. Basically the breathing of the song needs to match the breathing of the choreography, which allows her to remain in key when singing live - which is why people think she's lip-syncing when she performs live but she's not. It's in her breathing. Since you're going out of order in looking at her videos I would suggest: *I Get Lonely *What's it Gonna Be (Feat. Busta Rhymes) *Made For Now (Feat Daddy Yankee) *The Pleasure Principle *Dammn Baby *Miss You Much & Miss You Much (chair routine) {two separate videos} - watch back to back. There is a dance break at the end of the video that's cut from the official video so you would have to pull up both videos and play them back to back. There are so many great music videos with Janet - you're in for one visually/vocally beautiful musical voyage.
