In the 1986 Parade Tour's First Ave show, on Christopher Tracy's Parade Prince says: "Jimmy Jam, I don't want to hear any of this on your new record. Prince wrote this and it was gifted to Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis as a olive branch for their feud for producing other acts outside of the Time, it was meant for them to use on their solo project. Janet heard it and begged for them to let her record it. ....it was never intended to be on Control. It became a Janet standard and also rehashed the beef between Prince and Jimmy Jam/ Terry Lewis.

Sean H, It's funny you say that. Her first two solo albums (1982 and 1984 releases) failed to really advance her music career. So in essence, the public and media wrote her off and thought she would go back to acting and fade into obscurity as far as her singing career went. But no, no, no. In 1985 she ditched her father's control and the beat producers he set her up with on her first two albums and hooked up with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and the rest was history.

I don't know I got here even though I'm a huge Janet fan, but since I'm here: I love how the deadbeat boyfriend literally walks in right out of the 50s with his leather jacket and cuffed dungarees. Living for the cheap, hand drawn background and my personal favorite, the bored cook dusting the bare cake with his shoulder towel. Good shit that could only be born in the 80s.

I think of the most opposite sh they would ever listen to & keep it there. I remember a time where my baby dad & i couldnt ever not get into a fight over music bc itd be like oh yeah? Is that how you feel? ,,, That type dumb sh. But 😁 yeah, i sang this to him in an over the top way. I started off trying to pretend i was sincere. But it escalated quickly into bitchiness. This is a very pivotal song because it was the first single released from Janet's breakthrough Control album, so in a way, this single started Janet on the road to superstardom...then a few years later came the album "Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814", and the rest is history. I refer to Janet as the "Queen of Pop", but that's me...I don't care what everyone else says.

@@petermurdoch7540 Absolute rubbish. Paula did not choreograph any of Michael's videos. Ever. She choreographed the "Torture" video for the Jackson brothers. Michael wasn't in the video or even on the set. NOBODY knew who she was when she did that video and she never even met Michael. Jackie introduced Paula to Janet, who hired her to do the videos for "Control". and THAT was how she became famous. Everyone knows this story. Paula has talked about it over and over. And once again, for the millionth time, I have to mention how ridiculous you MJ fans are, always trying to give him credit for every damn thing that Janet does. Honestly, you MJ fans are psychotic.

@@HaileyJackson10 LOL! so you think Prince got credit for every single song he wrote???? oh your so cute but you don't know s**t about music history. Prince wrote two songs for JJ and gave it to Jimmy and Terry. Facts. Even Nasty was mean to be an Apolonia 6 song. BTW Prince was a fan of Motown, but he never covered MJ, his back singers did (for 30 seconds) when MJ died, but you can find dozens of covers sung by Prince, complete five minute songs sung in his own voice not his back singers. Prince wasn't clearly a MJ fan. "Michael Jackson's album was only called Bad because there wasn't enough room on the sleeve for Pathetic.” - Prince.
