The undead are actually pretty interesting with a Necromancer start, as their Necromancy can increase your stacks beyond their limit during the battle. So your units basically have temporary hitpoints. The giants are also decent tanks due to them forcing enemy units to re-roll attacks in melee to give your other units a chance to flank. They are definitely a bit clunky though, since once you enter melee you're stuck until you win or your entire unit is wiped.

Thanks for introducing me to this game. Now, I'm hooked. I found the Deepwood Dancers and Rangers very underwhelming. The wood elf faction for me needs tweaking. My most successful run was as the Dwarves. Having guns upgraded on Deepguard is just overpowered. And dwarf cannon are insane.

Considering, there are so many races you can either just dice roll it or just go "from top to bottom" and repeat. Either way I'd watch you play any race.
