Sharks have a tongue referred to as a basihyal. The basihyal is a small, thick piece of cartilage located on the floor of the mouth of sharks and other fishes. It appears to be useless for most sharks with the exception of the cookiecutter shark.

As someone who loves cephalopods and sharks (but am by no means an expert on either), and an owner of this set's predecessor 4506 Deep Sea Predators from 2004, this set looks to be a worthy spiritual successor to one of my favorite LEGO sets of all time. However, I'm not as big a fan of the shark in this one as I am of the squid and the anglerfish, both of which improve tremendously on their previous versions. The shark here does have better shaping given the diversity of parts compared to 15 years ago, but the pectoral fins look too stubby and I think overall the original shark can still hold its own. I wouldn't mind having the two together - different shark species can cohabit peacefully. The original squid was lanky and as a result notoriously flimsy at its limbs; this one is significantly beefier and has actual tentacles along with its arms, which is great. Your suspicions are right: cephalopods usually have only one siphon/funnel/jet, not two. The original anglerfish had a comical-looking mouth, which wasn't so much a problem as the lure that pointed straight up! The anglerfish here is much more realistic-looking, and I especially like the deliberate use of different angles to get the shaping of the head just right. I also prefer the glow-in-the-dark parts in the original set, but it's great that LEGO preserved that aspect of the original set in the form of trans-neon green parts in this set. The price is great even where I live, but unlike the original which allowed you to build the shark, squid and anglerfish all at once, I'll have to get as many copies of this set as models I want to build. Given that I already have the original set rebuilt and on display, I'm not sure if I think it's worth getting this one just yet. I'll have plenty of time to think about it, hopefully. Thanks for reviewing this.

As regards to not being able to pose the shark head upwards, this doesn’t matter anyway as sharks cannot look upwards so it’s more realistic that it doesn’t move in that direction.

9:41 The Imperial Assault Carrier, set 76106, uses a similar technique in the top segment, the "roof" if you will. It comes off to access the minifig interior of the ship and there are shafts (short lightsabre blades) that go through regular technic pins. They aren't used as detail like in this model, their only purpose is to allow this roof section to maintain it's shape. The technique is the same though.

its actually ok that the sharks mouth doesn't close completely since it is supposed to be a great white... great white sharks do close their mouths, however it always looks like there is a bit of a gap left between the jaws (no pun intended). i think this set captures that perfectly...

if you have a light pointing at 1 of the shark's eyes the other one will light up very bright, as if there's a led in there. and the mouth of the shark really doesn't look that good fully closed. you can get it to close by removing the pink tongue piece, but it just looks odd. I initially bought this set for the squid, but ended up liking the shark a lot more. and another neat thing about the shark, if you hold it by the tail and the head you can make a very realistic shark swimming motion.

KUDOS to you for a video greatly done!!!! 261 comments and only one of them mentioned what I thought when I first saw this set: squids have 10 tentacles!!! Octopuses have 8 tentacles. This deep sea cephalopod has only 6. But it's understandable due to the number of parts included. After all, the main build is the shark (which called it a Megalodon, the only deep-sea shark of that coloration). And I do have to thank Cednoug for that input. I mean, several viewers commented about the scientific name of the shark's tongue, but only one (now two) commented about the squid's missing tentacles. Really can't call it a squid if it has only 6 tentacles... But it's understandable. The squid was in combat with the sperm whale and lost four of its tentacles in the process. Tough battle. Now that observation is complete, I truly loved this 3 in 1 set!!! I'm also very thankful these sets are at least less than $20 because you HAVE to buy at least three of them to complete the builds. If they were more expensive, they shouldn't be 3 in 1 to begin with. I'm also thankful that some have alternative builds (like the Mighty Dinosaurs set). When Toys R Us (rumors through the Webvine that they may return under a different name....) went out of business last year, it was a great opportunity for me to buy multiple 3 in 1 sets for a reasonable price!!! Of course I'm planning on only buying three of this set (for the shark, "squid", and whale) because I don't like the angler fish. In my two cents opinion, the angler fish wasn't a good build. My only beef with buying multiple sets are the extra boxes and instructions (that's 8 separate instruction booklets to deal with! So my plan is to search BrinkLink for sellers with sets without the box and extra instructions. I ran into the same problem with my Mighty Dinosaurs sets. Oh well (how deep?), again, kudos to you for this video. It was very enjoyable and educational at the same time!!! Keep up the great work you do for this channel!!!! Thanks.
