It's awesome that you're planting coffee trees. I've never seen it done. You said you wanted to plant 50 trees. You can do it a little at a time. To build the numbers up. Try it that way instead of doing it all at once.

JASPER, and France, the way you guys are doing it, is a DREAM of mine. Have so much fun, savor it, for all of us, hovering over your shoulder. Is Mike a photo-taker? Even if you do it with your iPhone, PLEASE snap lots of pics. (iPhone cameras are superb). Thx, Jan. I'm 71, you appear younger than I 🎉

Mike is a photo taker as well, though not usually as many as me. But he is a PRO at panoramic shots! And yes, the iPhones have amazing cameras! And also yes, I just turned 60 this year.

I was a dark-haired girl, yes! Basically the color of my eyebrows. But also, both my maternal grandmother and my father turned grey early, as did I, and I have a theory that that usually gives a pretty white hair rather than the more yellow tones. Thank you!

Hi Jan, if I were going to France, I would like to see two things, the Louvre and inside the vase that Eleanore of Aquitaine gave to King Louis VII. Also visit the grave of Jim Morrison. Third, the Sajou house. France is not high on my bucket list but those places I mentioned would be nice to visit.

Lovely to see you! You will have a fabulous time in France I am sure, just be aware most of the French will also be on their holidays! I adore Brittany, it is beautiful. A few places to look at: Île de Brehat, Plougrescant (Le Gouffre in particular is stunning), Pointe du Raz, Quimper. You MUST go to Carnac for the alignements, and while you’re there pop to Quiberon for an hour or so too. I may think of more! Food is wonderful - all the things that come to mind at first are sweet (kouign-amann, crepes, far breton, palet breton) but I recall we also had savoury galettes, and lots of good seafood, plus cider. In Paris, if you only do one museum my recommendation would be the Musée d’Orsay.

Thank you so much for all of these tips! I’ll look up the places you mentioned and make a list! I love the thought of lots of good seafood! And I’ve heard the galettes are wonderful! And because they are made of buckwheat, I can eat them! (I’m gluten intolerant.) We do realize that August especially is when most of the French are on vacation. We’ll make the best of whatever comes our way!

Hi Jan, Mike and Nina! So lovely to see you today and catch up. Beautiful new designs and stitching as always. Ugh...doctor's appointments. I am past due for my 6-month colonoscopy follow up of a removed precancerous large mass that they removed last year so need to get a referral for that pretty soon. In the meantime, I have been sick since February, have been on 3 rounds of 10 days each of 3 different antibiotics. Finally got a referral to an ENT doctor who took one look with only the otoscope and said oh, I think you need sinus surgery. Apparently I have a deviated septum which is obstructing flow of the sinus. Not sure when the deviated septum occurred; could be when I fell and broke my eye socket back in 2003 or could have done it when I broke my back a couple of years ago since I did hit my head a couple of times my mom said when I kept passing out from the pain. Right now the ENT is trying a course of steroids and a compounded antibiotic nasal rinse solution (of course not covered by insurance) so will hope these measures clear things up. If not, will have surgery probably fairly soon. During all of this, we are trying to find a house to rent closer to the kids (nearly an impossibility with Samsung building in Taylor where the kids live) so we are now looking at the Temple area, trying to avoid the whole Killeen area, as the kids want to move north of the Georgetown area eventually. My stitching has been very minimal this whole time. Just am so tired from being sick for so long. Walter is growing like a weed and going through the horrible 3s. My goodness, girls are so much easier to raise than boys. What exciting news that you are going to France! I have wanted to go there since I was in high school many moons ago and had to miss out on going with my class due to the fact that I knew my parents could not afford over $3000 at the time. I loved what I was able to see of Banff, Glacier and Jasper Parks although much of either Banff or Glacier was closed due to a wildlife. I know you and Mike will love these areas. Enjoy your time in Arizona as much as possible as you will soon be on the road again. Take care my friend. Dawn in Texasss

Welcome back. I was just thinking about you the other day. I am watching from my hospital bed and "don't cry for me Argentina," if I can quote a lovely song. The diagnosis change from pulmonary fibrosis in one lung, to IPF in both lungs. The poor doctor was so serious about what he was going to tell me that I felt sorry for him. Internet tells one everything one wants to know about any disease. Yeah, not curable and all downhill; however, I am assured that this can be managed. Cross stitch-wise, I have over 100 WIPs ready to go, but not being able to breathe makes it hard to concentrate. I am full of antibiotics and steroids now, and getting Pt, so I am determined to pick up needle and thread. Thanks for all the beautiful patterns. I want to acquire a few more, especially the ongoing sampler. But, first to get better, then tackle the WIPs. France - I was in Paris with my granddaughter in 2003. We only had a day there, but the one thing I recommend is the boat cruise on the River Seine. They play French music, talk about the history of Paris, and pass right in front of the Notre Dame Cathredral. So very romantic. France is beautiful, and I hope you have a wonderful time. I am Kate Brettschneider, and my name is recognizable all over the place because it's long and unusual. Take care.
