Janis became known at this festival in 1967. She was 24. Clive Davis was there and signed her that day! She was incredible, the Queen of Rock and Blues-Rock. By 1970, she passed away. Her story is very compelling. I recommend you look into her catalog and her story.

That is some sad stuff on how she practically had 3 years to see what her hardwork had done.

The lady saying "Wow" was Cass Elliot from the group The Mamas and the Papas. You may want to listen to Janis Joplin's "Summertime," "Codine," and "Get It While You Can." She was unique and this appearance at the Monterrey Pop Festival was her break-out moment that made her a star. I enjoyed your reaction.

:) lol historical value yes young man, you just witnessed the birth of a genre of music, fusion of blues, soul, Jazz, acid and hard rock. Coming from a twenty year old middle America white girl. As significant as Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Elvis in the fusion of blues and swing creating Rock and roll, as significant as James Brown's Emotional soulful power ballads. She was the first Female singer ever to accomplish this as a lead rock singer. The woman in awe, saying wow was Mama Cass of the Mama s and Papas a folk rock band This was the first time that she let alone anybody else had ever heard this type of musical fusion. 2 for 2 on the fire right thanks for playing and reacting to it, your musical horizons are expanding. Well done listen to some of her songs she is unique and the single most paramount figure responsible for breaking the so called glass ceiling for female success in the rock era. here 1969 a combo of the old blues song summertime and ball and chain sung in Germany This rendition opened up all of europe to her it has a one minute documentary in it but it the only time she sang it, considered to be one of the greatest performances ever. Not fire young man it is Armageddon LOL let me know kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qMtxjaxlyNDTY6s.html you will remember always let alone your subs hint thanks Piiclo when you listen to it I want you to think of a white female James Brown don't laugh just keep it in your mind you see why trust me

Musical horizons are definitely expanding it was definitely different like she you could feel that she meant what she was saying definitely an interesting fusion of genres. Never heard of Mama's and Papa's but that or moniker is an interesting name. The moment you stated that it was Armageddon you caught my attention. Thanks always for the insight Grant

@@PiiClo okay I do not know your extent of knowledge on James Brown but he consisted of dance songs specifically to accent his moves then there is his true soul ballads the latter is what I am referring to

No big entourage or choreographed dance routines needed here. Just old school go out and make musical magic.

She had a very sad life. Her childhood was especially sad... and the caught up in the whole hippie thing. Like many sad people she kept chasing love and acceptance only to get burned over and over . She had finally kicked her addiction but got another disappointment and took some that was too pure. It killed her.

I thought she was dating a guy named Seth who proposed to her, and she was planning a wedding. The story was that Seth was a student at UCLA and she'd pay to have him flown into NYC on the weekends to be with her. She had worried at first that Seth was only after her for her money. But then she had him investigated and found out that he was from a mega-wealthy family. He was a Hells Angel biker type and this really surprised her.
