That voice was all Janis. No professional training or anything. Simply 100% pure raw talent

My favorite song from her (It's a cover song) - so much emotion and power. Never will we have another Janis Joplin.

Beautiful! Her live version of Cry Baby is the best thing on the internet!! Bobby Hatfield of the Rightous Brothers also does an excellent version of Summertime.!

Ace, you had the same face we had back in the late 1960s when we heard Janis for the first time. Great reaction. Love your channel. Subscribed.

Your exactly right. Queen 👑 Janis does sound like she's singing 2 or 3 notes at a time. Perfect description of her magic ✨❤

My favourite version of this song by a mile, simply beautiful, great backing from Big Brother and the Holding Co and stunning vocals from Janis.

Not Big Brother, The Kozmic Blues Band. The only one here from Big Brother was Sam Andrew on lead guitar.

They said she was polyphonic. She could harmonize with herself.

Janice's voice can not only take a punch, it can give one too.

FYI BB King also suggested that Janis' voice was two voices at once.

I absolutely agree with your comments at the end about what else can you do? You can try to keep their music alive. And that's exactly what you are doing.

I know exactly what you mean by "her voice can take a punch". Especially once you explained it. One of her great abilities was to use resonance and lots of harmonic overtones, and she was amazingly in control of them a lot of the time. Singer's Formant: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squillo

Wow, I've been waiting for this for a long time. I'm so glad you decided to do this. And yeah there's a whole lot that could be said about just the physics of the acoustics of what she's doing with her voice at the end, I mean all the way through, but at the end she does that descending final phrase and she's got like these higher harmonics in her voice that become so dominant they're almost like this super faint background vocal, but much higher, and also descending melodically along with her main voice. It's just so beautiful. And it's a classic Gershwin song from years before that. But was still really beloved at the time here. And really in lots of places. And Big Brother and the Holding Company is just absolutely perfect for this.

This song is from a Frankfurt concert (1969, Germany). Back band: Kozmic blues band.

You also must do her live version of Cry Baby , Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers does a killer version of this song but his is shorter but amazing.

This song involved horns. So, it was not Big Brother and the Holding Company. One of the reasons she left them is that she wanted horns and they thought that was straying too far from their target. This would be Full Tilt Boogie.

This live version is the best. Check out 1969, live Stockholm, same concert as Summertime, Work Me Lord. Janis,1969 live, The Tom Jones show, Little Girl Blue Janis live, 1967, Monterey Pop Festival, Ball and Chain.

Janis' vocals were untrained, off pitch at times, raw, and soaked in Southern Comfort and Marlboros. She was something special!
