I think her and Otis Redding had that style where they were able to play with how they perform the lyrics and it would really reveal their soul and convey what they're going through at the moment because they don't stick to the tried and true version on the album. They would just run-on with it like my last sentence, goddamn!

I remember years ago the CBC Radio (up north) posed the question: "Did Janis Joplin have a good voice?" I immediately called in and was picked up, I said: "Whether or not she had a good voice seems almost pointless to ask. The fact is that this women bled for us on every song she ever sang and gave us her all. She is a legend for that."

Nothing about her performance here would be famous today: her hair, costumes, choreography...and that is sad because look at the voice we would have missed. One of the greatest singer of Rock n' Roll....my Babe........Janis Joplin........Love her........Love her!!!!! She is legendary like Aretha!!!! Just Sensational!!!!!! And Adele is her grandchild.....Listen to Adele's "One and Only," and you will see the similarity. Listen to Adele's "One and Only" Adele sangs like she has swallowed an Old Black woman Blues singer!!!!

What a great version of this song. Janis knows how to bring the blues out of any song.

If you have 20 minutes free, I really highly recommend checking out a July 16th 1970 recording of Janis Joplin taking the stage with the Grateful Dead to perform Turn On Your Lovelight with Pigpen, the Dead's keyboardist at the time who had a relationship with her for a time. The sheer chemistry and energy on stage from them both and the band is amazing. I'll also say that the Grateful Dead song Bird Song is about Janis Joplin and the concert movie Festival Express features them and a few other bands on a train tour with some excellent footage and performances. Thanks for all your reactions!

When I visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I checked out the Janice section. There was a sheet of acid with her face on it in there! Y'all, when I saw that, I lost it! lol

When I grew up I first knew this song with Michael Bolton’s version. This has been covered a lot - as I should since it is an amazing song.

Thanks a lot! In my opinion, the best rendition ever .I believe Janis was the first one to cover this BG's song written in 1967 by Barry ( 21) and Robin (17 and a half) in 1967. The song was intented to be recorded by Otis who died before having the opportunity to do it.
