Janis is unique. No other voice will ever even get near to her. She took this beautiful song by Bee Gees, turned it inside out, and made it the lament of a desperate soul. Timeless.

I saw Janis on July 7, 1970 at the Civic Auditorium in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The ticket was a gift from my Mother on my 15th birthday. The show was then, and still is to this day one of the big thrills of my life. My Mother worked at the Holiday Inn where Janis was staying, and brought me her autograph. I asked her how she knew it was her...she told me, " I guessed by the way she was dressed, and all of the people with her, that she was somebody important." Janis was dead three months later. A bright and shining star that burned out too soon. RIP , Pearl....

Existem muitas deusas e deuses, rainhas e reis.

The female singers of the 60’s were a special breed. Janis was one of my favorite along with a totally different style artist, Cass Elliot of The Mamas & The Papas. Both of these ladies broke the mold that society expected of them. Both were artist with great voices, who left us us all too soon. Check out the You Tube recording of Janis singing Ball & Chain at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festive where Janis made her debut. Cass was sitting in the audience watching the performance and you can tell from her response that she too was blown away. Cass went on to close the festival with the Mamas & Papas singing Dancing in the Street. So glad we have those remarkable performances.

Im amazed that with all the comments on here nobody knows that this song is originally written and performed by the Bee Gees. Its my all time fav bee gees songs. Blown away by her rendition of it. So much grit and soul. Shes so amazing.
