Janis was my first crush as a little hippie 8 year old hehe - Janis has a serious warmth about her that isn't just the junk and so-co, or even Southern manners man, she was just such a once in a lifetime person and I think about her damn near every day. What a damn free as can be cat, the hippest of the hip too. RIP baby.

Watching titans of rock hanging out on a train. One day, our faces will be painted in huge murals on the sides of buildings throughout the world. Legendary stuff

The story is that crossing the border into Canada, and being on a train there was not much drugs on the train for the whole trip. They did stop at one place where there was a liquor store, which they basically bought out. Jerry Garcia never being a big drinker is obviously having a great time.

Janis and Ron "Pigpen" McKernan of the Dead were an item for a while and apparently (according to Bob Weir who slept in the next room) they were quite loud and boisterous while making whoopee. I hope her and Rick were too.

@@matthewmaguire3554 There was no shortage of psychedelics on the train. If you watch the film, you’ll see a brief shot of a Texas mickey with more than a few tabs of acid floating in it. A quote from Weir: “After someone added jell caps of LSD into an oversized bottle of Canadian Club, Weir said, “we achieved lift off.”

I wish I had a dollar for every time Janis said _'man'_ in her short life. Here, on Dick Caveat or wherever... I could pay off the national deficit 🤣

I don't know why .. but I keep having this same dream where I go back in time to this train and I'm just sitting there and absolute awe listening to these people and after they are drunk, I tell them I'm from the future...and I start to sing the hits of each of those people and then I tell Janis Joplin to please stop drinking and doing drugs because we need her to "stay with us" ... she says " What happens if I don't" and then I start crying in her face ...and she catches on that she is going to die soon ... and I wake up a God Dam mess ... this dream won't go away.

then maybe you should stop drinking and doing drugs and that dream might go away

What’s funny is that I had a dream similar to this as well, about two months ago. I’m sitting there, in between Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir, just watching. Watching the magic unfold, trying to just breathe. Janis is the reason I wish time travel was possible and I can’t believe she and Rick Danko are sitting across from me. After they’re done, Jerry suggests to me that I should sing something. Being a singer and musician myself and not really knowing what to sing, I start singing “The Times They Are a-Changin’”, one of my favourite Bob Dylan songs. To my surprise, everyone else joins in, with me playing the guitar along with Bob Weir. I remember Rick asking me where I was from. I told him Vancouver. I remember Janis asking me how old I was. I told her 19. (I’ve had my 20th since then.) I remember telling Jerry and Janis that they are my biggest influences (from that decade of course, I have so many from different time periods). I’m still in awe that I am in the same train car as these two people, and I remember crying in the dream because I knew that when I woke up I would remember that both Jerry and Janis are gone. Of course, I can’t tell them this (and frankly I don’t even want to) so I just tie my emotional vulnerability into the previous conversation. However, I do remember saying I was worried about everyone and wanted them all to just be safe. I remember Jerry telling me that they’ll be fine, and that everything happens for a reason. The last thing I remembered was feeling Janis’ arms around me. She said “We’ll all see you soon, baby.” How I wish to have that dream again, just to see everyone.
