I’ve followed Sinner from the very beginning. I’ve always said that he has the game needed to be a champion, but what has changed the most about him and what has brought him over the top (besides the developments in his forehand and serve) is his belief in himself and his complete sense of composure on court. I really think that aspect has come a long way under Darren Cahill. He’s been showing us a champion’s mentality for the past few months, and the only thing that was really missing was the major championship. It was an inevitability and I can’t be any happier for him and his team.

Probably one of the best runs in the new era of male tennis. That, along his attitude, his mental strength and overall his demeanor on court makes Sinner probably my favorite new generation player.

Medvedev just can't catch a break in Australia. Kudos to Sinner for believing he could still win despite being two sets down.

Sinner's win vs Djokovic in Australia and Alcaraz's win vs Djokovic in Wimbledon were so meaningful, it's like a change of the guard in men's tennis despite Nole is still a threat for anyone but Jannik & Carlos have already proven themselves in the biggest stages. The mental development of Sinner is something else! To believe in yourself after going down 0-2 in your first GS final and be able to turn it around is really special.

Legendary performance by Sinner! One of the best grand finals in a long time

Battle of attrition, both playing superbly....Sinner had the legs, and that is the way a Grand Slam title match should be played.

Losing the first two sets probably helped Sinner become less tight so he can actually play his actual aggressive style tennis as well as getting more first serves in because he's got nothin to lose at that point. Med came out swinging harder in the first two sets (higher topspin average than all of his matches in the tournament), but there was no way he could keep that up physically, especially after Sinner loosened up and started firing rockets. Congrats to Sinner for staying strong til the end in all aspects for in his first grand slam final! 🏆

I'm not gonna lie, I didn't think he would be able to turn this match around after being 2 sets down. Daniil surprised me a lot with his tactic during the first 2 sets where he was so agressive. But what a match from Sinner. What an amazing ball striker he is. He has improved so much since last year. This victory is the 1st of many more to come, as long as he stays healthy.

I heard lots of talks about sinner last year and him barely giving good results apart from the canadian masters. After the later part of the season and specially the atp finals we are finally seeing the potential come to terms with the outcome. Impressed on the stamina of both... medvedev was doing everything correct. He moved the ball side to side making his opponent "tired" . But basically - he was also getting tired and got tired faster thus giving up the winner in key moments. wow!

beautiful to watch both of these guys...much more pleasing to the viewer than Alcaraz or even Novak. Gorgeous strokes. But Sinner has better odds over time with the one flaw of Medvedev.... Sinner stands right on the baseline, Medvedev is generally a few to several feet behind the baseline hitting the less penetrating looping balls. Sinner hits the flatter ball with the slightly better angles. Basically able to control the match much more than Daniil. What a future this guy has, unbelievable.

Sinner has been truly incredible. This AO he beat Khachanov, Rublev, Djokovic, and Medvedev all back to back, and the scary part was all of them were easy matches except Medvedev. Sinner’s killer instinct is incredible; sure he looked nervous early in this match with Medvedev playing the way he was, but he never panicked, never freaked out, and stayed the course. The moment the third set started, Sinner just never looked bothered, never looked in trouble. He played progressively better as the match went on and the fifth set was definitely his best performance. For Medvedev, I feel pretty bad man. He’s had two gut-wrenching AO losses between this one and Nadal in 2022. Both where he led two sets, but was facing an on-fire opponent who was just destined to win that day. No one can tell me Daniil choked this match. Medvedev had one of the boldest game plans I’ve ever seen by playing super offensive in the first two sets; do yall realize how difficult it is to reach a grand slam final and commit to playing an entirely different style that you’re not fully comfortable with? Medvedev did that, and that’s the reason he won 2 sets here. In the end, I think we all knew Sinner would shake off the nerves and prove his offensive tennis is better than Medvedev’s. And that’s what ended up happening; Sinner asserted himself with those huge groundstrokes while Medvedev was driven back into defending. Medvedev definitely started to feel the effects of the long AO run as well; he has now set the record for most time spent on court at a major ever. The man played four 5-setters in 7 matches, came back from 2 sets down twice, and dropped one set in two other matches. He only had one straight set win. This was an amazing feat of endurance and durability from him, and I bet he’ll have a big season this year. The top of the game looks utterly stacked right now. Djokovic will likely bounce back from this loss, especially during clay season. Medvedev looks as strong and tactical as ever. Alcaraz will come roaring back soon and probably peak for RG-Wimbledon. Zverev has had some of the best slam results of his career lately, and of course Sinner looks like he might be the best player in the world if he keeps it up at this pace. Sinner has won his last two against Alcaraz, 3 of his last 4 against Djokovic, 4 in a row against Medvedev. He was won 9 of his last 10 matches against top 5 players. There no longer seems to be a matchup Sinner is scared of, and if there’s a weakness in his current game, I can’t seem to find it…

Technical difference between Sinner and Alcaraz? Both can generate power and speed, but Sinner is more grounded and balanced on his baseline, whereas, Alcaraz, due to his inherent game, needs to move away from the center of the baseline to execute powerful shots and generate pace. With weaker opponents it works but with players capable to handle his game and return his shots, he is left covering the ground, making his own shots counterproductive. Also, everybody has now understood his dropshot tricks and this will be more and more obvious as he spends time on the circuit.

This is actually a sign of good things to come for Medvedev as he has shown that he can be very difficult to beat if he comes forward. With his incredible wingspan, it is almost impossible to pass him at the net and he is one of the very best volleyers in the ATP tour. The only thing that kept him from doing that till the end of the match is that he was gassed by the start of the third set and the spring from his legs was already gone.
