Aesthetic Japanese scenes of daily life during the 80s & 90s in 1080p. 35mm restored footage:
Some of these clips are from real daily life, some are from documentaries and others are from movies, but they show the reality of the country at that time as our Japanese distributor partners confirm.
The essence of this work is about focusing on the beauty of the little things in life and the everyday, all in a relaxed way. After an intense work of curation we bring to you; vibrations of simplistic cut and native visual beauty. A work of art only for the most exquisite palates, restless minds and wandering souls. The original lofi girl

Video resolution and frame count on modern day cameras is better than ever. But there's something - ethereal - about these old footage that were shot originally on film. I don't know if it's because of the film grain, or the softness of the images. Or if the magic's in the softer and duller colour palette. Maybe it's a combination of all these factors, or maybe it's just nostalgia on my part. But there is something magical to what I just watched. So thank you for the upload 👍

It time machine for me especially how japanese movies loves to showcase their culture upfront.
@Romo2055
@Romo2055 Ай бұрын
I think the overall "retro" look subconsicously strikes us simply because it is nostalgic, we watched alot of movies shot within these colors during a young age when our imagination and wonder was at peak - subconcious brain perhaps reflects back on that. Also you are correct that the softness of the images and the film grain (don't forget halation) sort of resemble an old memory, the highly saturated look that often comes from old film is kinda also similar to how we remember memories; soft, a bit noisy and imperfect, almost like low resolution.
@Barrrt
@Barrrt Ай бұрын
I also think it's the warm colors. The film breathes a quality of its own similar to a filter. Thank you all for your comments, they are making me examine something I thought I knew - why this works so well. Based on Romo's comment I'd say it indeed has something to do with my childhood brain. But also with the fact that film has certain qualities that digital doesn't. A lack of perfection. I also think that in order to work with film you have to work with the medium and this sets some limitation that also leads to creativity. When not everything is possible, you have a constraint within which you can flourish. With digital you can do e v e r y t h i n g so why would you celebrate the mundane? I mean: if you watch 4K coffee videos on youtube there is a technophilia at play that you don't have when you just have film to work with. You can't do any cool tricks so the essence has to be there and it has to be good. Also: since barrier to entry was higher in those days there is an automatic quality mechanism at play. The fact that now everyone can make everything is great - but quality selection works differently now.

I grew up in the Japan in the 80's and 90's. The vibe was similar to this. Our generation was call the age of delinquents. Our parents feared that peaceful times would breed delinquents. So, we had many propaganda films to help us remind ourselves of discipline. I also noticed many familiar actors and actresses from long time ago.

hey man, that's so crazy because I was almost in the exact same situation except for the role of Male Zombie 4. We could have been coworkers. Ultimately, I was told that I was disgusting some of the mocap artists with my stench, and that I would have to be let go from the production. But I was given these strange Japanese beans by a coworker there. He told me it would give me energy to impress my Japanese bosses. I still suspect him as a rival actor, and it must have been sabotage. I swear, that must have been the source of my fetid odor. This encounter was my undoing, and the source of my fusty musty problems, I was sure of it! Can you imagine how shocked I was when I played the game, and eventually came upon a zombie that looked exactly like the man who gave me those beans! I knew right then I had to draw my Raccoon City police issued weapon on the zombie and get all my frustration out. Unfortunately, the lone zombie defeated me handily, and I have been too scared to play the game again. I see the image of that bean peddling zombie in my nightmares. He's just laughing and stuffing beans in my face. Then he eats me. This happens all the time. The dream always ends the same way: the Capcom staff whispering to each other as I am escorted from the Camp Capcom Campus. I can't make it out at first, but eventually I hear "ほら、あそこの外国人が豆を食べてるよ." I don't even speak Japanese so I can't understand what it means, but I'm sure it is directly linked to the trauma I experienced that day.

この時代の日本の映画の絵はシンプルで色鮮やかで素敵だなぁ。ローファイのチルな雰囲気に合ってる。 昔の邦画もっともっと見たい。日本の文化は本当に凄いんだから。

I don't know what it's like now, but I lived in Japan for a long time and right when people weer switching to smart phones. Everyone was still reading manga at the combini windows and everywhere else they could. PSPs and DS's on all the trains. I almost don't want to go back to Japan now, I bet it's so different from 15+ years ago. Like, similar people and similar goals, but rose tinted glasses or not, it was a time we'll never get back, but I hope more people like TRNGL mix stuff like this for people to try to experience it.

In Japanese convenience stores, reading books standing up, which was originally prohibited but tolerated to some extent, has been banned, books are sealed up with tape and cannot be read. In addition, many stores used to have benches outside their stores, but all of them have long since been removed. And now everyone has fallen into smartphone addiction, and people are peering at their screens even while walking. Restaurants and drinking establishments that used to be open late at night and even until the wee hours of the morning are closing early around 10pm or midnight, the twinkling lights are going out, and it is getting dark everywhere in the city. Incidentally, when a country begins to decline, it means that the city loses its light, and eventually even the people's faces become dark and cloudy. Many japan convenience stores and restaurants have actually gone out of business. The government's fund-raising measures have led to a gradual increase in the consumption tax to 10%, and prices continue to rise as the negative effects of the turmoil overseas have directly impacted the domestic situation. However, compared to other countries, prices in Japan are still at a low level, and it is "sort of" miraculous to be able to eat quality food at low prices, but, it is nothing compared to Japan in the 80's, 90's, and early 2000's, when everything was inexpensive and overflowing like crazy in every store. At present, it is not uncommon to see stores with empty shelves, and foreigners who have been to Japan in those days can feel the decrease in goods themselves when they come back to Japan again. Japanese people have a desire to work, but they only think about having fun and making money, and as a result, Japan's GDP ranking has finally fallen behind Germany, and has been overtaken by them, dropping to fourth place. It has reached a state of decline. Japan is in a truly pathetic state...
