Made in Japan.
The Himitsu-Bako is an enclosed box, seemingly with no opening and you cannot even tell which side is the top or bottom.
Its mechanism is quite tricky. It is impossible to open it unless you follow the exact step-by-step procedure, such as pushing or pulling a certain side at a time, designed specially for it.
To be opened, each box must be rotated, turned and moved in a specific way.
It takes between 1 to 1536 moves (STEP) to open a box.
The size of a Japanese puzzle box is measured with a traditional Japanese length measuring system called “SUN”.
1 sun = 1.22 inches = 3.09 centimetres = 30.9 millimeters

The Japanese are such extraordinary people. What I wouldn't give to spend a year in Japan, learning from some of these men. (and maybe a year in an Amish shop as well)

I feel the same as Simon, watching master craftsmen/women communicating their art and learning from them is totally absorbing. To watch and learn patience and perfection, stunning .

I love it this craftsman minimises his personal effect on the world's wood supply by creating his art using veneer and not whole pieces

I really like the diamond pattern box with the different coloured woods. Mtmwood uses a similar process when he makes some of his end grain cutting boards. The Apprentice and the Journeyman has tutorials on wood inlay and banding on his channel.

Those are the lamenating sheets for the decorative exterior of the boxes. The geographic design confuses the eyes an conceals the puzzle. And he didn't lose his fingers they are all there just bent under.
