Didn’t yet watch the full video but scrolled through the time stamps and even though your map vaguely portrayed it, I didn’t see much mention of the 21 demands to the Chinese government as well as occupation of shandong and other regions for a while, as i feel like it’s important to show that as early as 1914, Japan was eager to establish a protectorate sort of situation in china decades before they’re eventual invasion 1931/33/37

What are your plans for future episodes, now that you're collaborating with Kings and Generals for their coverage of the Pacific War in WW2? Do you still plan to make videos covering that war on this channel?
@ThePacificWarChannel

Haha...the very question I have been pestering all my friends over. I will still be covering it, but quite differently than KnG does (event by event instead of week by week). I also would like to venture more so in historic film reviews, gaming etc. Also KnG chose to do 1941-1945 week by week and I want to emphasize 1937-1941 for my own channel.

Sorry for asking about this here, but in one of your podcast episodes for Kings and Generals you mention that historians have calculated that there's no way the Axis powers would have won against the Soviets. Do you have any insight on how Japan seizing British, Dutch and Australian colonial holdings in South East Asia without provoking America directly would have worked? Would it have solved their resource problems without risking a war with the giant of USA?
@ThePacificWarChannel
@ThePacificWarChannel 2 жыл бұрын
It was thoroughly discussed amongst the Japanese war planners. The crux of it all came down to the Philippines. To simply go around the Philippines and hit the Dutch was deemed an impossibility because the assumption was, once the war began that the US Pacific fleet at a minimum would consolidate and become a threat right in Japans backyard. The British holdings were seen as triggers for America to join the war and they were necessary to invade in order to take the Dutch East Indies. From their viewpoint at the time it was not possible to just hit the Dutch and or British holdings, had to take everything in the South Pacific had develop a defensive perimeter so the IJN could transport resources back to home islands.
@devofanj9452
@devofanj9452 2 жыл бұрын
@@ThePacificWarChannel Makes sense. How sensible do you think the planners were about making these assumptions? It seems like every Allied power was trying their hardest to avoid direct war and the Axis powers forced their hand through overt actions.

@@devofanj9452 The more you look at it from the side of FDR or Churchill, they did everything possible to push the Japanese to make the first move against them. Even the Dutch played their own hand taking advice from Britain/USA on how to deal with Japan. Cause if you think about it, the Japanese tried to strike a deal with the Dutch to purchase oil which would have "solved" everything. It was always about the China war, Japan simply needed resources to continue it. If the Dutch sold the necessary amount of Oil to Japan it would have gone very differently, but Britain/USA made sure that would not happen,

@devofanj9452 2 жыл бұрын
@@ThePacificWarChannel That's a pretty enlightening reply, thanks. So any alternate way for Japan that involved a victory for them would require that the Dutch(or the British) sell them as much resources as they needed to continue the China war effectively? I don't see any other power in the region that would give them those resources, America was already supplying them for long during the China war and only cut their supply when they invaded northern Indochina.

Hi, tnx for the new episode. I do wonder after this how the other yes voting country’s reacted to Wilson’s claim the racial equality act needed a unanimous vote? Why did they agree while their vote was being ignored?
@ThePacificWarChannel
@ThePacificWarChannel 2 жыл бұрын
The French delegate was shocked when Wilson overturned it reminding him it was a strong majority vote. Australia was the most adamant about opposing it cause of the White Australia Policy. Italy strongly supported it. Wilson's move pretty much alleviated everyone from the situation so I doubt the other delegates cared or made much fuss. It should be noted, the Japanese privately talked to the Australian delegate and convinced him to change his vote, but Wilson in the end stopped it.
