WHAT IT'S LIKE EXPERIENCING A TYPHOON IN JAPAN! In today's video, we experience typhoon Nanmadol in Iwakuni, Japan, in September 2022. We were very lucky as it weakened once it broke land. We DID experience a lot of rain and flooding at the Nishiki river. By day two, all the flooding had gone away revealing debris that is already being cleaned up!
Thanks for watching, and if you have any questions, let me know :)

WHAT IT'S LIKE EXPERIENCING A TYPHOON IN JAPAN! We were so lucky that typhoon Nanmadol weakened as it reached across Japan.. but I stand by being more prepared than you ever think you need to be. As someone who lives in a Hurricane state, totally understand the stress. It’s weird because it’s something you have no control over and just have to go with the flow. You did great.

Looking at the recovering is amazing. I've always admired Japan for this, from you talking about the flooding and that plants where still kept in place, it's gets one thinking they they have excellent growing systems there. I think in a time where flooding all over the world is becoming more frequent, it's always been advocated that planting native and ensuring soil health allow for strong big healthy roots that help keep the soil and ground together. Nature is absolutely terrifying but her resilience and ability to thrive is extremely admirable 💚

We lived thru some super typhoons when we lived on Okinawa. One hit dead center on the island. It was wild. We’d go reef walking after the storms passed and we found some great antique glass fishing floats.

Hope you guys are safe and well ✨ I was was super concerned about Japan due to the Typhoon. At the same time that the Typhoon was passing, my home (Puerto Rico) was also hit with hurricane Fiona. Although it wasn’t as strong as the Typhoon, we had torrential flooding and the WHOLE island lost power and a few days later water. We are slowly getting back power and water. Stay safe! Love your channel 🤩

Would you consider doing a treat unboxing with your husband? Like have him off camera trying the treats with you and we hear his dialogue? I feel like you mentioned him a few times in this video with things that he likes to eat and drink so I thought that would be a fun way to shake things up! Just a thought always want to respect his privacy.

I'm glad you guys are safe! I had a similar experience while visiting Tulum, Mexico last year. There was a hurricane that went right over the top of the town while I was there and no one was really sure what to expect. My friend and I tried to do what you did as well though, and just be as prepared as possible. Luckily, everything turned out alright!

Glad you’re all safe! I understand how you feel when they keep mentioning it that it gets stressful. I live in Hyogo, and when it came, we were all so prepared. The winds were so strong but we didn’t get much rain. I’m thankful we didn’t get much damage. But every time a typhoon comes I freak out…especially when they send an alert to our phones. 😵

Thank you for filming the before and after of the flooding. It was good to see that once the rain had stopped, the flood waters also receded. When the alarms/sirens went off, I had flashbacks to the major earthquakes and ensuing tsunamis Japan experienced in the early 2000s (at least I think that is when they occurred- my apologies if I am incorrect).

Oh my god, I didn't know your name was Caitlin! What a coincidence, mine too. I just clicked on your blog post (: This was an interesting video, I think having announcements and sirens is a good thing because sometimes the phone lines may be down and therefore won't get phone updates. Although, I think people who are deaf would perhaps struggle with this at night since their hearing aid will be off!

I can only hear some of the announcement clearly but they state who is making the announcement and then say get prepared for the incoming typhoon. The other part might have said go home immediately. The ones around my house are also difficult for me to make out because of the echo that happens, it’s such a weird effect.

Those announcements always freak me out especially when they go off in the middle of the night (I live near the mountains so I’m assuming that’s why they always go off randomly?). The first time I heard I literally thought it was something super serious! They kind of give me peace of mind now though lol I’ve also always been told not to do the X’s on the windows but seems like everyone here does that? 😂

That Haagen Dazs was not what I would call expensive...It's imported and yes local brands will be cheaper so you should stick with local but that is true anywhere....It's about average price all things considered....Here in USA FL 1 pint of Haggen costs 583 japanese yen and up (tax included).

Caitlin, that was a very informative inside look at going through a typhoon in Japan and the aftermath (albeit, from a very privileged perspective). How does Gus-Gus respond to storms? My Gemma has gotten more freaked by thunder as she ages (10 years old now). She is normally a momma's girl, but when a storm hits, she is stuck next to me.

Hi! I am from Puerto Rico and we just go hit with Hurricane Fiona Cat. 1, and it was devastating in some parts of the island, most of them because they didn’t opened the dam before the storm hit and it made major floodings all around the island. The same thing happened in 2017 with Hurricane Maria. They don’t open the dam before a storm, they always open them during the storm. I was glad to hear that in Japan they open them before, our goverment should take the example, so many lives don’t get lost again and again. 😔
