Thanks for this video! I love tips about cheap ways to eat in Japan. My de-facto cheapo strategy when I was living in Japan was to head to any of the numerous 'Yayoi Ken' restaurants and order the cheapest 'ichiju sansai', a set meal (which is either grilled miso mackerel or deep fried chicken) with unlimited top ups (it's self service, so don't feel shy) of plain, white rice. I would basically fast till as long as I can till about 3-4 pm (there was once I hit a 6 pm record, but it was the summer and I did nothing but hang out at Tower Records listening to records) and head to Yayoiken and eat 6 bowls of rice or something. It's immensely fulfilling for a mere 590 yen. The meal will last you an entire day. Comes with free cold unlimited green tea, pickles and miso soup too. It gets pretty packed during rush hours, but at other times, you can sit there as long as you wish without anyone bothering you, which basically means you can eat as much rice as you like. Some of these branches (like the one in Ginza, several in Shinjuku) are open 24 hours!!!!! That's insanely awesome.

#1 Pepper Lunch, #2 CoCo's Curry, #3 Yashinoya. Food is good everywhere. Can't really go wrong. Try the Melon Fanta too. Mr. Donut is really good too.

Yea there are so many chains like Yashinoya that have huge portion sets for cheap... and even the draft beer is 150 yen. Cant really go wrong!

yeah when i was in tokyo , yoshinoya and CoCo curry were cheap but had good portions and good taste and MOS burger was a great fastfood (decent price but much more tasteful than McDo or burger king)

Been waiting for a channel like this for years. Japan was always the hardest place to get travel info for newbies, especially for those who don't know the language, are on a budget and the difficult transportation system. You have made 2016 the year of Japan.

I'm planning my first trip to Yokosuka, Japan to visit with my sister and her family as my brother-in-law is a contract electrician and will be working there for three years. I appreciate your time and effort to put this video together as it was explained very well, you have a nice poise about you, and now I know how much expect in terms of prices for various foods. In most convenience stotes there are microwaves and hot water for noodles and drinks, and seats and tables to have your meal. There are also electicity sockets and free wi-fi and toilet. In many, there is also a smoking room. Not difficult to budget in Japan.

There's a local restaurant in the center of Shinjuku near the Gracery Hotel I always go to when I'm there. I get a medium bowl of fried rice, 4 gyoza and miso soup. I'm a big guy, and it always fills me up. The total bill is 500 yen!

I've been to Japan and had curry, I love it. I also have had it in Hawaii at CoCo. I didn't realize CoCo was also in Tokyo! Also in Honolulu there is an Udon place called Marukame Udon which looks similar to the Marugame that you show in this video. I love Marukame, it always has a line and you can watch the noodles being made from scratch and other things frying behind the serving line. So much fun!!! I'm returning to Hawaii in a few days so look forward to re-visiting these two places.

There are so many cheap and good places to eat in Japan. Japan has the reputation of being an expensive holiday destination but restaurants are in general not expensive. Most of the really expensive restaurants are for business meetings with potential customers.

Exactly! There are so many restaurants so competition is super fierce which means price is competitive between the shops so it makes it easier for us to get a good cheap meal haha.

Thanks for watching! Hope this could help you - it shouldn't be too hard to get a good meal in Japan for a decent price :)

Yeah! The budget is really tight at the moment as I only just got here and I am trying to find my feet so this is really useful! Great channel too! I may make a similar channel on my video as a response in the future.

Glad you liked the video! There are some really great fresh sushi in Japan :) You should definitely check out "Tsukiji Fish Market" - it's the biggest fish market in the world so it has a lot of fresh fish! I just did a video about it recently if your interested :)

What ?! Don't they have Fateher's Day in your country ?! Ha ha. Wrong and also seemingly completely random English is common in Japan ! Still it provides everyone with some amusement.
