Japan News | Rare "Flesh-Eating Bacteria" That Can Kill In 2 Days Spreading In Japan

Күн бұрынA disease caused by a rare "flesh-eating bacteria" that can kill people within 48 hours is spreading in Japan after the country relaxed Covid-era restrictions. Cases of streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (STSS) reached 977 this year by June 2, higher than the record 941 cases reported for all of last year, according to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, which has been tracking incidences of the disease since 1999. Group A Streptococcus (GAS) typically causes swelling and sore throat in children known as "strep throat," but some types of the bacteria can lead to symptoms developing rapidly, including limb pain and swelling, fever, low blood pressure, that can be followed by necrosis, breathing problems, organ failure and death. People over 50 are more prone to the disease.

Lemme say I'm a doctor currently doing my pg in microbiology.. The chances of you getting stss is less than you getting struck by a lightning.. STSS has always been there for a very long time. Nevertheless just in case if you are visiting Japan just wear a mask (simple mask would suffice no need N95 and stuff) and don't get hurt. Better stay safe than sorry

Few things it's a bacteria, so treatment with antibiotics is on the table yes there has been an increase, but it's not a pandemic it's not airborne (hence why it likely won't become a pandemic this isn't new, it's always been somewhat around. Recent rises suggest that during covid the increased sanitation curbed the usual occurance of this type of strep. But because of that, likely the communal resistance to them has also weakened, leading to increases now 340 cases were recorded in the US last year tho mortality is claimed to be 30% (which may be true for risk groups), of 980 cases in Japan last yead, 77 died. Still horrible, but not quite 30% horrible

too much fear mongering. flesh eating antibiotic resistance bacteria already spread around the world. mostly concentrated in hospitals. so elderly and low immunity patients mostly at risk contracting such bacteria in hospitals. please spray antiseptic before you allow elderly, children or sick patients to sleep on the hospital bed.

Now to be clear...this is NOT a new bacteria. My best friend died from it 4 years ago (we are in romania, and easter european country) but its EXTREMElY rare to get it. (She got it from a rrally small scratch in a tree. That tree had the bacteria somehow. She died in a few days) so she was really unlucky and it was a huge tragedy...really it would be better be struck by lightning. so im shocked that its all of the sudden so common in japan out of all places...
