Whats your opinion about renting a car from tokyo or nearest big city to Japanese Alps?

If you are not relying on public transport & your trip starts & ends in Tokyo then Tokyo is better choice otherwise Nagoya or Toyama can be your choices or even Matsumoto/Takayama depending on the rental prices.
