Japan is the land of extremes. The archipelago still bears the scars of the fiery land. Here in the easternmost tip of Asia, men and women pursue their passion in their quest for perfection. This is the land of the marriage of nature and tradition.

Addendum: Japanese seems to possess an unwavering determination & unyielding dedication to their crafts pursuing to the ultimate apex perfection; that process of making those Taiko or drums made a favorable impact on my mind. OMG, it takes 5 yrs to produce, & so durable that it won't rupture even if 3 grown men are jumping on it repeatedly as hard as possible! The absolute meticulousness, steadfastness, & perseverance to a minute detail & perfection may be forced to be reckoned w/., & no wonder the products, made in Japan, seem to be equivalent w/ the high quality. I wonder if anyone else perceives so. Thanks for reading my another lengthy comment.,,,,(03/14/24)

Technologically advanced? Have you visited Japan? It's still stuck in 1990 since the lost decade people never got to implement anything... Japan probably will never manage to get out of 1990 at this rate and sadly is on track to doom as great as it is.

I was just in Taiwan last week, it was okay the country is also heavily Japanese influenced from the shopping centers to Japanese anime characters everywhere. The people were awesome the food incredible. The best part was not Taipei but the area right outside Shong Shan airport, that was dope. The restaurants and cafes were wonderful. They were heavily Japanese influenced. As much as I enjoyed Taiwan, I was happy to get home to Japan which is far from overrated. Taiwan has copied a lot from Japan. Even the malls were all mostly Japanese stores. Also 80% of the people I encountered spoke English and Japanese. They were warm and welcoming. I’ll be going back, but better than Japan not even close.

If you name the title that have word 'eternal' with 'Japan', guess that you may know only little about Japan and the perspective on life of the majority of Japanese people. When facing with constant earthquakes and storms (or even tsunami) every year, they don't know if they can survive tomorrow, everything can happen in a country with an island geography like that (constant change, can't be so sure if it lasts that long and unchangeable to be 'eternal'). Hence, they often view life as short and transient, and they appreciate the beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete" in nature (wabi-sabi). For example, the image of sakura (Japanese cherry blossoms) is often seen in a lot of Japanese songs, which have different meanings, but the popular one is that they represent short but vibrant lifespan, a reminder that life is fleeting. Therefore, please just keep the original title of the documentary 'Somewhere on Earth: Japan'. Simple and noncontroversial. Btw, still appreciate that you cited the source accurately. Thank you for letting us know about this documentary. Really nice.

Japan is another example how a nation could turn itself around and be a force for good vs. evil. When we look back at WWII, Japan was a militaristic nation with an emperor who was revered as a god. As such, those who served in the military were bound to fight to the death for their emperor. Japan conquered much of Asia causing long term ramifications such as China becoming communist and. the rise of the Kim family in North Korea. Direct consequences of Japan's conquest of Asia. It took the utter destruction of this nation to bring it to it's knees and accept a new form of government. Today, Japan is a model nation. Peaceful, prosperous and open. All civilizations go through growing pains that often lead to a better society. It is so good to see Japan as our friend and ally and not the militaristic scourge it was in the past.

That's a wrong view of history. Just as Western countries were colonizing the world one after another, Japan also tried to colonize Asia, and Japan fought to protect this fact through an Asian union called the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. It was also for the sake of Asian people, and was a way to stand up against white-dominated Western supremacy. Unless you're an idiot, just look at the history of the world and you'll understand. Each country in the Americas, Australia, and the African continent had its own unique culture. White people destroyed them and ruled them.

Has it been named a heritage site ? I'm thinking upon seeing the "steps" made by the falling slabs of rock where he went down by the shore, that the underwater structure is natural and the action of water has smoothed the surfaces making them appear man made.....that and the power of belief. sorry bloke but your wasting your time.

They seem to accept that the larger formation is natural. What they are implying is that people altered the natural site and built and or sculpted parts of it. I have seen a documentary specifically about this site. There are people who are equally accredited who support and do not support the idea. So... if it pans out to be altered, ok. If not, it's still a beautiful and awesome site to visit and experience.

For those unfamiliar w/ Okinawa's history, in a nutshell, it had been an independent small sovereign country closely linked w/ China in terms of culture & commerces until the end of the19th century when Japan invaded & forced it to be annexed, & hence, they had lost their own unique culture as well as language! Haplessly, they had been prohibited to be used. During WW2, numerous Okinawans were treated so badly by Japanese military men or they were used as the shield from American barrage of attack! This is the core reason why many of the Okinawans abandoned & immigrated to Hawaii after the WW2. Even now they have been regarded as the secondary citizens & have been discriminated by the mainland Japanese, for example, the vast majority of Japanese would oppose their children to get married to the Okinawans. I'll stop here, & thank you to take time to read my rather lengthy comment.,,,,(03/14/24)

@@adimsala5075I mean, sure. I think you could say the same for the history of most countries and cultures. At one point and time, pretty much everyone has tried to conquer and subjugate a neighbor or go as far as creating an empire. France, Germany, Russia, Italy, Spain, Britain, China and Japan are just some that come to mind right away. Of course these are just some more modern examples. If you want to go back through recorded history the list would never end. I'm not going to hold what people's long dead ancestors did in what was essentially a different world over their heads forever.
