Just got back from a 16 days vacation in Japan (began the journey in Akita, ended in Fukuoka). Love your channel and your advise on traveling on Shinkansen was so helpful. Please keep up the great videos. 💜💜💜😁

Thank-you for sharing your time and experience with us in the live Q & A. I've lived in Japan before and I learned new things. It's amazing that one can travel from Tokyo to the termini of every shinkansen line except for those in the JR Kyushu zone (Kagoshima Chuo & Nagasaki) without changing trains.

Hi. You can use IC cards for local transportation within a city, such as taking the train to Disneyland. I recommend getting SUICA/Welcome SUICA cards when you arrive in Tokyo. If the adults in your party have iPhones, you can get digital SUICA or PASMO cards before your trip. Here's our video on getting Child SUICA cards for children ages 6-11 years old: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eMimhNijr8qznpc.html Or you may be able to get them a Child Welcome SUICA. For traveling from Tokyo to Osaka and then Kyoto to Tokyo you can buy individual Shinkansen bullet train tickets. Here's our video showing how to easily buy tickets online from Klook: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fapgh9No3623laM.html

the Toyama to Takayama train is the Hida Limited Express, sometimes the train stops at Inotani station then it switch to operated by JR west and its own Limited express train. Timing plays the key on this route, sometime the Train stops from Toyama to Takayama straight, but sometimes it forces you to Change Train at inotani station. I will say try to book Toyama to Inotani, then Inotani to Takayama. Also Inotani to Takayma runs on both regular train and limited express train. The time difference between 2 trains are only 10mins different but the price is 1200 Yens more on the limited express - unreserved seat ticket. The Toyama to Inotani section are the same as the Inotani to Takayma, that route has both regular and limited express train. Time difference is round 15mins and the price is 760 Yens more on the limited express - unreserved seat ticket. So please look at the time, that part runs very different than from Takayama to Nagoya. Enjoy your train trip in Japan. Hope this helps

Hi guys thanks for this informative live Q&A! Were going this July. From tokyo to mt fuji to osaka, which is the best transpo to take?
@KenshoQuest
@KenshoQuest 20 күн бұрын
Hi, we recommend that you get to the Mt Fuji area via the Fuji Excursion train. Then once you are done you can either back track to Yokohama and board the Tokaido Shinkansen bullet train for Kyoto or you can take an express bus from Kawaguchiko Station to Hakone Yumoto where you will need to take a train to Odawara station where you will board the Tokaido Shinkansen. Here are a couple of videos that will help: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ap5ia61qtNqymY0.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a7x3d72fxszSmHU.html

Hi 😊 a happy subscriber here. Thank you for the info you are sharing.very helpful. We have a stop over in Japan, staying for 3days. Planning to visit mt fuji. Is there a bullet train from Funabashi to mt fuji? Flying in to Haneda, what is the best transportation option from Haneda airport to Funabashi with our 4 suitcases?thank you😊
@KenshoQuest
@KenshoQuest Ай бұрын
Hi, there is no bullet train to Mt Fuji. If you want to visit the 5 Lakes area ( Kawaguchiko ) then you can take the Fuji Excursion Limited Express train. First you will need to take local transport from Funabashi to Shinjkuk station where you will board the Fuji Excursion to Kawaguchiko which is the gateway to the Mt Fuji area. You will need to purchase your Fuji Excursion train ticket in advance as they do sell out a few days prior. Here is an affiliate link: geni.us/fujiexcursion You may also be interested in these videos: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hK2Dipufu8rViXU.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ap5ia61qtNqymY0.html To get to Funabashi from HND you can take either the Tokyo Monorail or the Keikyu Line. The Keikyu will be a little faster. You will need to change at Shinagawa station. Both of these lines are designed for travelers with luggage. However, you will need to change trains and once you do, you will be on local trains which can get crowded. So the easiest way once you arrive at Shinagawa would be to take a taxi, but that can get expensive. I hope this helps.

Hi. During the live we were talking about the Hokuriku Arch Pass, which goes from Tokyo to Nagano (not Nagoya), then to Kanazawa, and Osaka. We don't know of a regional pass that includes Tokyo and *Nagoya*. Here's our video about the Hokuriku Arch Pass: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kMVyn7l3ks7DqJ8.html

Hi! Love your channel and thank you for all the valuable information! I have a couple of questions. Hope you can help 1. I already have a digital Suica card, can I still get a Icoca card when I arrive at KIX airport? 2. I’d like to book Shinkansen tickets for my family on SmartEx and link the Suica cards like you suggested, but since kids can’t get digital Suica cards, do we have to wait till we’re in Japan to book Shinkansen tickets? 3. How far in advance do we need to book JR reserved seat tickets? Our trip from Oasaka to Tokyo is 3 days after we arrive in Japan. Is that enough time to book reserved seats if we want to get Suica cards and add them to SmartEX?
@KenshoQuest
@KenshoQuest Ай бұрын
1. Yes, you can also get a physical ICOCA card at KIX. But you really only need one IC card per person. 2. You can go ahead and book Shinkansen tickets on SmartEX. Once you get to Japan and get your children's IC cards, you can link those to their tickets on SmartEX. It must be a child IC card to link to a child Shinkansen ticket. We made a video on getting a Child SUICA card (for 6-11 years). The process is probably similar for getting a child ICOCA card: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eMimhNijr8qznpc.html 3. It should be fine buying reserved seats 3 days in advance if it's not a busy time of year. But as mentioned above, you can buy through SmartEX before having the IC cards. 🌸 Heidi

We'll be travelling via the golden route (Tokyo - Takayama - Kanazawa - Osaka) in October. Should we still get the Hokuriku Arch Pass for a 4 year old child if we're mainly reserving seats? Or should we consider unserved seatings as it's not as popular yet?
@KenshoQuest
@KenshoQuest Ай бұрын
Hi, good question. It depends... If you want to be sure your child has a seat then you can't go wrong with getting an additional Pass. We do this for our 5-yo. But as you mentioned it is possible to ride unreserved. Just take into consideration that the Kagayaki and possibly other shinkansen services on the Hokuriku Arch Pass are reserved only. If you do need to reserve, here is a little hack that will most likely work unless it is rush hour or weekends or holidays. Make a reservation for the aisle and window seat, leaving the middle seat empty. Most likely no one will book this seat. If this is the case, then you can let your 4-yo sit there.

Thank you for all your videos. I haven't been back since 1992! I'm finally bringing my adult kids for their college graduation trip that was missed in 2020. We are flying into Narita and leaving from KIX. Staying in Tokyo and planning to go to Disney and Mt. Fuji for a day. We want to visit Hiroshima when we get to Kyoto and we are staying in Osaka two nights before we leave. What passes should we get . The local Tokyo Subway pass? Do you recommend getting the Kansai Hiroshima pass? You mentioned puttng the Suica card on our iphone. How do we do that so we don't have to stand in line at the airport. Also, where are your links we can use to purchase like Klook? SmartEX?
@KenshoQuest
@KenshoQuest 23 күн бұрын
Hi. For local transportation such as getting around Tokyo I recommend getting an IC card. From Apple Wallet you can click the "+" sign and choose Transit Card. Then scroll down to Japan. There are 3 digital IC cards: SUICA, PASMO, ICOCA. They can all be used to pay at the same places in the same manner. I use PASMO. We do recommend the Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass. It's a good deal for riding the Sanyo Shinkansen from Shin-Osaka to Hiroshima and back. Plus it's for 5 days, so you can use it during your Osaka, Kyoto, Nara travels (for JR local lines). Here's our affiliate link: geni.us/kansaihiroshimapass And here's more info: www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/ticket/pass/kansai_hiroshima/ Here's our affiliate link for purchasing Shinkansen and Limited Express train tickets on Klook: geni.us/shinkansen And our video showing how to purchase and redeem from Klook: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fapgh9No3623laM.html Here's some info about visiting Mt. Fuji. This is a 3 day itinerary, but you could do just the first day as a day trip from Tokyo: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a7x3d72fxszSmHU.html Have a wonderful time! 🌸 Heidi

@@KenshoQuest Thank you so much! I will surely click and purchase them using your link. Our plan be: I would click the link and purchase on KLOOK the Shinkansen ticket from Tokyo to Kyoto and then buy the 5 day Pass after I get to Kyoto? Would you recommend the local metro pass for Tokyo?
@KenshoQuest
@KenshoQuest 17 күн бұрын
@@pattykashiwamura625 Hi. Your two options for purchasing the Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass are through a travel agent, such as Klook, or online directly from JR West. www.westjr.co.jp/global/en/ticket/pass/kansai_hiroshima/#purchasing I don't think you can purchase the pass in person at a ticket office in Japan. The Tokyo metro pass is a good deal for getting around Tokyo. If you need to take any JR lines (which are separate from the Metro), you could use your IC card for those.

We are going to Sapporo in Oct, arriving New Chitose airport @ 8:30 pm. What would be the best form of transportation to get to Keio Plaza Sapporo hotel? We have two adults with 2 big luggage (each luggage is160 cm in total measurement). Is private airport transfer cheaper than taxi? Is taxi available after 8:30 pm?
@KenshoQuest
@KenshoQuest Ай бұрын
Hi, we recommend you take the airport rapid train from the airport to Sapporo Station then taxi to your hotel. This train is meant for luggage even large size like yours. It can be crowded at times but is the best way into Sapporo. Taxis are no problem at 8:30 pm from airport and while you can get private transport it won’t be much cheaper if at all. The cost will be at least $100 maybe more.

Does each of family members need separate cards
@KenshoQuest
@KenshoQuest Ай бұрын
Yes. Each family member needs their own separate IC card for transportation. Children 5 and younger don’t need an IC card, as they can ride buses and trains in Japan for free with a paying adult. Children 6-11 can get a Child SUICA card and pay half as much as adults for transportation.
