There was a bit of time between the first shot and the second shot. You'd think someone coulda tackled the shooter right after the first shot. I haven't seen any discussion on why that didn't happen. My own guess is that it didn't happen because the Japanese are so used to peace and so unused to guns, that the reality of the situation was just too weird for anyone there to understand it quickly enough.

My thought exactly. I'm an American living in Japan. In Japanese media they showed footage of Abe's security while PM and after. There is notably less precautions taken. While he was PM he had a security person stand behind him at events facing outward. They also reported that Abe had only one 1 actual security person, all the others were local police. The media here has also shown the training that security personnel go through and it is quite extensive. But the sad thing is that everyone thinks Japan is very safe which it is. This really is a once in a long time incident. But still, very sad and tragic.

Japanese security and body guards are complete USELESS! Why was the assissian able to get soooo close of 15 feet from Abe?? No one carry metal detectors?? Why was Abe not wearing bullet proof vests when outside?? This is a complete failure of the security police in Japan! I have lived in Japan for one year, and they just don't expect such a assissian to occur, thus, they are very relaxed and not doing their jobs correctly!! So very stupid of these security bodyguards. - Most terrible incompetent bodyguards ever - Most brain dead crowd ever, only watch, do not help In short. This was totally a preventable tragedy. Bodyguards have the sole purpose of protecting their client and preventing the worst, so they prepare for the worst. Every single one of these bodyguards should be put to court and trialed for negligence and incompetence. Such a disgrace. Abe will be best known for his smart economic development plans which saved Japan from economic collapse and actually led to a growth (Abenomics). But he also increased military spending and capacity by a lot which is very controversial. But he is very popular and beloved most Japanese and that's why he is longest serving PM of all time. However we can all agree that Abe is by far the most handsome and charismatic Japanese leader in a very verh long time. Rest in peace. This was quite the shocking crime. But Japan's society has long been sick and twisted so its unsurprisingly some people have gone insane for them to do this to a retired old man... This is a huge impact on Japanese society and I think from now on Japan will never be the same, both preventing these frenzy events by improving mental health and mental support and also greatly increasing awareness of self-protection and bodyguard work. This man literally murdered Abe because he supported a religious organization which apparently related to his mother going bankrupt... Now clearly you can see his mental health is a mess and very twisted. Recently many events have shaken up Japanese society such as the 2019 KyoAni Fire massacre, 19 school children being injured by a hermit, and also car plowing through Harajuku etc. Recently more and more fked up things have been done by Japanese people and it is time the government help improve the societies mental health and mental wellbeing because it is the only true way to solve these issues. Care about protection, but focus harder on PREVENTION. Many people don't understand this and it's sad... Japan will never be the same. This is a wake up call to the sleeping sick man of Asia.,.,.,

I have a question for you: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO GO TO HEAVEN? According to the Bible, John 3: 5 tells us “..unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God.” You need to be born again in Christ, in order to enter Heaven when you die: that means change your ways and live a righteous life. No one is perfect, but it important to repent everyday, because the worst thing anyone can ever hear is “Depart from me, I never knew you”…and be thrown into the eternity of Hell forever and ever. God bless you ❤️Listen to this Hell testimony

It surprises me that the mother of Shinzo Abe's assassin wasn't worried about her own son, at what punishment he would be given, but rather she is responded by saying she "Only talked about how sorry she was for causing trouble to the Unification Church." You know a religious group is BAD if you see the visible dangers of religious fanaticism, especially when a mom is brainwashed to choose religion over family. I am surprised the assassin accomplished his goal, in many ways, as now there are major talks in dissolving the Unification Church in Japan. As they say, Action speaks Louder than words.

The United States of America revived Nazism in Ukraine and armed the Nazis, who kill civilians in the Donbass with American weapons and commit crimes. The United States has built military biological laboratories in Ukraine and around the world to harm humanity. The United States brought radioactive metals to Ukraine to help the Nazis build an atomic bomb. The US weakens any country that has the potential for development. The United States destroyed the countries of the Middle East in order to stop their development. The US wants to destroy Russia, but Russia is defeating American, British and other war criminals in Ukraine. Shinzo Abe said that NATO (led by the US, of course) and Zelensky are to blame for the situation in Ukraine. It is not difficult to guess that the US was afraid of Shinzo Abe, who could be friends with Russia because he was already collaborating with Putin, but the current Prime Minister of Japan is a disgraceful servant of the US, who quickly destroyed all relations with Russia... The US killed Shinzo Abe. White Americans, British and other Westerners will answer for their crimes and will be completely destroyed very soon. What goes around comes around...

Abe did have a significant security detail assigned to him that day(less so than when he was premier, but still more than many other leaders). From the video, it seems that they were very spread out and in the crowd and none of them within arms, or two-arms reach of him. When the first shot rang out, his security detail seemingly froze due to confusion, but the majority of the security ran to the suspect, and only 2 ran in front of him, none moving Abe himself out of the way before he was shot. Failure to deploy the "suitcase-shield", and very limited coverage to block any projectile/bullets left him shot a second time. The bullet that likely caused the most damage. Its a shame, and no doubt a tragedy, but the security detail really did not expect something like this to happen. If there were prior intelligence, or even a verbal emphasis to the security team of the possibility of gunfire, the security detail would no doubt have saved his life. This is just my take on this, but obviously the investigation will find out more, and prevent anything like this from happening again.

It's not that clear cut. His detail probably didn't have a hard perimeter. If they didn't have clear cut benchmarks and parameters, then the detail wasn't designed to ever stop such an attack. And it would thus not technically be a failure on their part. The detail obviously wasn't there to keep individuals from approaching Abe.

True… in the footage, when the 1st shot made, the security just looked around where the shot came from. No one encircled Abe to be embraced/hugged down to the ground. Abe was still standing after the 1st shot, very exposed, alone, no one ran to him to cover him. When the 2nd shot was made, that’s the time he fell down to the ground. The security actions were very far from the US secret service. They absolutely need training.

The entire security apparatus there is different than in the US. Most patrol officers don't even carry firearms. The only metal detectors you can really find are at airports or gov't buildings. It's a different world there, but that's probably going to change.

Guess you learn what peaceful truly means. Yes. Shxt happens. But until this happened (which broke the peace), it was never needed. That's what peaceful means. Japan likes to portray itself and brainwash people into thinking that they are a peaceful, harmonious and kind country but people need to wake up and realize Japan is a sick and twisted country, where its society is depressed and occasionally people will lash out in frenzy hurting others and themselves in terrible ways. Stop being so stup*d and wake up to the real world!

Not really. He tried to sweep Japan's terrible war crimes of WW II under the rug and was a known revisionist. Most people around Asia are rejoicing at the death of this pathetic loser man. Good aim kid!

Regardless of what his issues was i still find the whole situation strange of the leniency of the security, regardless if they have strict gun laws. People say japan wasnt prepared for this reason, but security on that level should always be prepared for the unexpected regardless what it is. Plus japan has experienced murders before with guns despite being one of the strictest nations. When youre at that position as a prime minister despite how loved he was there is always people who envy you or hate you.

This is true because he still could've been stabbed, run over, hit, etc. Plus, Abe didn't have the most popular policies. Also, I'm confused why they won't release the name of the religious group. Does it border on cult ?

@@jonathanfigueroa1035 Yes, countries do security differently. In my country, the current Prime Minister has security at all hours, but former PM's do not, unless there is a genuine reason to add more security. (Like if they have received a lot of harassment and threats.) I don't know how they do it with speeches though. Maybe they have somewhat tight security if they give speeches at events? But not to the point where they're not accessible. Politicians are supposed to be accessible. You can walk up to and talk to prominent politicians, even the PM, if you see them. I don't know how things are in Japan, but I'm just highlighting that security detail varies a lot around the world. Of course, they should've been better prepared. Even though things are more lax in my country, as opposed to in the US for example, the PM still has security close by that will pay attention to everything. They won't interfere if a fan or someone who just wants to talk is approaching (they can tell this very quickly), but if someone seems like a possible threat, they will interfere. I'm not a security expert, but they guy walked towards the PM and pulled out a shotgun. I'm pretty sure that a security experts paying close attention would've spotted this and stopped him before he got that far. Instead, it seems like they heard shots and then figured there was a threat nearby.
