Hi! I'm Finn and i wouldn't actually think it's weird if you carry some Finnish ancestral. Based on researches here in Finland:" In the European comparison, we differ significantly from the rest of the population precisely because of the Asian genetic heritage. - The big difference is that we have 5-10% of the Asian genome in our genomes and that is how we differ from the rest of Europe. The same can be seen in northern Russians and, to a lesser extent, Estonians". This is research confirmed by Yle couple of years ago. Some of us might carry little bit "Asiatic" looks. Finns are ofc also mixed with European dna, but there is definitely DNA from east as well.

I'm originally Bengali and did the DNA test with Living DNA recently. I had thought bengalis were quite a homogenous population but turns out only 50% of me is from the subcontinent. 30% is Pashtun (an Iranian people residing in Afghanistan) and 20% is East Asian (including Tibet and SE Asia). The biggest surprise was 2.4% Japan & Korea. I also have a few percent Hunza/Burusho who are a people indigenous to the very northwest of the subcontinent. It was such a surprise just how diverse my genetic mix is but also explains why I don't look Bengali.

Interestingly enough, the Finnish language is structurally very similar to Japanese, Korean, and the other Asian languages of the Altaic language family. The only language related to Finnish in Europe is Estonian. While there has never been a linguistic link 'proven' between Finnish and the Altaic languages of the Far East, one has to wonder if the portion of these individuals' DNA reported as 'Finnish' might be from some ancient lineage that links the people of Finland and Northeast Asia...

I gotta admit, I love when people of Japanese heritage find out they have partial Korean/Chinese ancestry. It helps remove this mindset of Japanese superiority and of being pureblood, prompts them to acknowledge they have more in common with their East Asian neighbours than differences. Especially when we already know majority of Japanese population are descendants of the Yayoi people from the Korean peninsula. Hoping this would lower tensions between the two nations.

@runner well not very different for china hehe, this one sits on the throne for 72 years now, this kind of similarity in ruling absolutely has ancient confuscian social hierarchy culture links. I am happy as a Korean to see such an open-minded Japan. Both Japan and South Korea, the demons in power, want to emphasize the alienation between the people of the two countries and remain enemies forever to extend their power. Among the 200 countries on Earth, Koreans and Japanese have nearly 90 percent of the same DNA, and Japanese are good because they have the same blood. The positive mind of brothers and sisters in the two countries brings peace and prosperity. The opposite is only mutual destruction.

I agree. Only if foreigners could understand and accept the fact that Japan is diverse and multicultural throughout history. They think that Japan was an isolated, monocultural society for majority of its history when it actually wasn’t. You have to take into account the people who he is selecting for this. Most Japanese don't really have spouses or children from different ethnicities, and most of them don't have as special of a story as the old guy. Diversity is pretty nonsensical. Optimally mono-cultural societies are better, while still being able to respect people of different backgrounds.

Its the other way around. “Ainu” refers to the tribe that was formed when the Nivkh invaded and settled in Northern Japan in the 13th century and then mixed with the Satsumon(Wajin+Emishi) people that originally lived there. Not all Jomons are Ainu, but all Ainu are part Jomons.

well not gonna lie, both 佐藤 and 妙子 hit that 1.x% Finnish again haha, just like a lot of other East Asian individuals who took the test, I suppose this is really linked to historical manchurian groups and other siberian group migrations. And the old man is so open minded, as well as I glanced at him and felt a bit familiar with other old grandpas I saw back in my hometown because most people of where I am from (Hainan island,China) had historical Fujian(Hokkien) ancestry dating in some 800- 1000 years, migration and mixing within the diversified yet labeled as single one gene pool of Southern Han Chinese.

I really disagree with the framing of the old guy. It seems like he has some sort of insecurity or something to want Japanese people to take DNA tests. He will be very disappointed lmao. Yes, human beings did start in the continent of Africa, and we are still extremely similar genetically if not near identical. However, the small adaptations human beings began to develop differentiates them from each other. South Saharan Africans have very dark skin while Europeans have very light skin. East Asians developed epicanthic folds on their eyes (monolids) which differentiates them from others. Identities are built off of physical characteristics and culture. I agree with the lady in the orange jacket. Genetics are quite the dice roll.
