Thank you very much for your videos :) i'm glad to have found this one especially, on the meaning of this. When I was younger, I was with a group of like-minded tearaways (the street was safer than home and we formed a good group) and that dragon was our sign, everybody had it tattooed after one year and we would graffiti a dragon on our buildings. I've a large dragon tattooed on my back and several Koi as well which go with it, half water and half sky as "I" am the land, mortal, but water and sky are always changing. Thank you very much for these, appreciate your time.

there are also other types of dragons in Japanese seiryu ( the one mentioned in the video ) - the blue dragon, protector of the east ryujin - the dragon king, who has a palace under the see and actually has a human daughter since he was able to change into human mizuchi - the god of the river, fearsome and mighty dragon of enoshima - a dragon who terrified the people of enoshima, came in the end to protect them after the arrival of a goddess there are a lot of temples, shrines and ukiyo e (paintings) for dragons, some Indigenous and some are mixed from Chinese legends, in any case, this mythical creature was a god in ancient japan, and a symbol in many aspects of the Japanese life

Ryu is tied to Water...So then in battle, he must have some kind of water based breath weapon. Like a water laser that cuts through virtually anything. Or a cloud of scalding hot steam. Or even lightning breath with ice breath as a secondary weapon. Then again, they'd likely possess the wisdom to harness ki in battle. Perhaps a focused beam of plasma fueled by ki?

I have the Japanese Dragon on my Ramen noodles bowl. I eat my noodles with dragon chops. The Dragon makes sure my noodles remain auspicious. :-) I also just sent for Ultraman from Japan, who was my first superhero as a kid. :-D I also have three dragons tattoos. And I'm also going to go to work in my new Camry soon. :-O And I remember being in a play in my University days based on Rashomon. We consulted a Japanese lady who was teaching Japanese at the University to make sure we were interpreting the play correctly. Oh, and my Zen master was Joshu Sasaki Roshi back in the day. We chanted the Heart Sutra and Avatamsaka Sutra and spent many hours doing zazen. So Japan has always been a part of my life one way or another. Karate was the first martial arts I learned in the 80's and 90's. :-) My favorite Japanese movies are: Seven Samurai and Ran: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j92Aks6J3sqRgqs.html

What an excellent introduction to the more philosophic and cultural elements of Japanese society. I found it most valuable how you describe how critical of a role irrigation and water has always played in society (no water = no life) and it gives some context to how society becoming more self-reliant (by using more modern agricultural methods) sort of made them less dependent on aid from ryū/ryuu. Also, side note: I just realized that in the word "ryūteki" (a traditional wind instrument used in gagaku, ceremonial and some folk music and performances) is *ryū,* and though I already knew ryuuteki instrument was intrinsically linked to the dragon, it never actually occurred to me that the word for "dragon" was _in_ the instrument's name. 😅 That's so cool! ❤
@ZENUPYourLife-withSanaSakura
@ZENUPYourLife-withSanaSakura Жыл бұрын
Wow, great that you notice them!! The Ryuteki is a decorative instrument that traces the main melody of the Hichichiriki and adds color to it. Its tone is compared to the cry of a dragon soaring between heaven and earth, and its light, dynamic, and powerful sound is very attractive.

I’m trying to find out what parts traditional dragons are often made up of and how they vary and meaning between them for irezumi tattooing. The most traditional type does seem to have all the features she mentioned, but some others are the whiskers of a catfish, sometimes the feet are hawks feet instead of tiger paws. The antlers seem to come more specifically from Japanese Sika deer. The teeth also appear to be similar to varieties of oni mask? The nose often seems bulbous and human along with the mustache and the beard and brow and I’m wondering where these come from. Fins or tail fins also seem to be taken from sea creatures and the hair seems to often be an adaptation of that? Their cheeks tend to be very round and puffy and they always appear to be depicted with elements. I am curious about the ball or egg they often hold and what these mean. I don’t quite have a handle on how to depict them and the meanings, but this was very helpful.
